The list.

Pretty interesting and unique choices, of course, I'm not done reading the whole thing, but these guys definitely know their stuff.

Also, anyone mind if I cross post this in the Anime & Manga forum? They have quite a few anime titles in their list.

[up]It wouldn't hurt, but don't be surprise if some people get pissy over the blogger listing the anime among "cartoons." tongue

Pretty nice list over all, but several series got the "What the hell" reaction for their placements. I do like Yu Yu Hakusho making the top 10 though.

Which series' placements made you go "What the hell?" exactly?

I'm surprised (but pleasantly so) to see King Of The Hill in the top 5. Even more surprised to see Ed Edd N Eddy at number 7. And amused to see that they used the "Cowboy BeBop at His Computer" picture [lol]

After skimming the list, I'm actually kind of surprised how many of these I've seen (and how many are ones that I've been meaning to check out for a long time). I haven't heard of a few of them though. (GTO?)

I agree some of the placements are odd, but then again, its all just opinion. I may think series X deserves a much higher spot than Y, but I won't be too hung up over it, especially since each entry has such a good explanation for it.

Was anyone else thinking, “If Family Guy is at #1, I’m throwing my computer across the room”? [lol]

Ed Edd N Eddy at #7? Nostalgia Filter, anyone?

I definitely think Avatar should be a lot higher on that list but other than that I have no major complaints. Sure I would rate a lot of things far lower than they are and I haven't seen most of the anime but nothing on that list made me go "WTF are these people on? This show is garbage!" That's always a good sign when you have a top whatever list.

[up]Replace Family Guy with Simpsons or South Park and I had the same thought.

edit: Wait a minute, Samurai Jack is not on that list. I now have a complaint.

The only thing I really don't agree with is Avatar being so damn low. Other then that, not bad.

Wait, Samurai Jack's not on this list. What the hell?

Superman The Animated Series being at #50 is the standout example IMHO.

For once an animation list that ISN'T filled up with Disney movies. I'm freaking happy about that. Also, not to bad for the choices they picked for favorite cartoons. Although, I am a bit disappointed that Friendship Is Magic and Sym Bionic Titan dont make it in the list. But then again...Everyone's a critic.

[up][up] Those exact two shows were also listed as being too recent and they don't know if it'll hold up well in the coming years. It makes sense, I'm glad they considered that. You can't really have an all-time list with things that just recently finished, because what could be prime in the present may not necessarily be too great later.

I'm actually pleasantly surprised that this guy picked cartoons from a wide range of genres, mediums and eras. Usually I cringe at the thought of "Top X cartoons" because they usually act like nothing was good before the 1990s (the most overrated decade ever IMO) but this guy subverts that.

I'm surprised Huckleberry Hound of all things made the list. Not one of my favorites, but I'm not gonna criticize it either.

[up]It was a actually a group of people that made the list, which is why it's so balanced compared to most other "Top X" lists.

Some thoughts

  • 8 should not be lower than 7.
  • I'm not sure that 28 really belongs on this list.
  • My inner fanboy wishes that 27 were higher, but I can find no real fault in its placement.

I can't say that I agree with 59 appearing on that list at all. Good? Yeah, sure. 59th best animated show of all time? That's pushing it.

Some animation website that says it's better than Toon Zone (which means that it is more likely than less, filled with people who got banned from Toon Zone)

I'd place Darkwing Duck (brilliant original superhero parody) over Duck Tales (decent but still very watered down version of the classic Carl Barks Duckverse).

I'm not a fan of 'Top X' lists, because they always leave off something or disappoint somebody. Obviously, its just an opinion, and I wish people could just leave stuff like this alone.

What I'd really like to see is some kind of open-source blog-thingy that just lists everything everybody can agree is 'good'. No ranking, no limiting to just one person's opinions.
