I've always been wondering about the name. This form of trope transplant seems right to me.
Can someone write up a description for the trope that should be slotted in?
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanSo this trope is about IMA CALLIN IT A LAZER NOW?
There is also a current YKTTW "Laser Bolt" or something about non-beamy projectiles being called lasers. Probably because "laser" is an Inherently Cool Word.
An Ear Worm is like a Rickroll: It is never going to give you up.Lasers Are Not Light might also be a good name for the former
Can some examples go into Painfully Slow Projectile?

Good catch. Yes, that seems to fit.
Rhetorical, eh? ... Eight!Painfully Slow Projectile is when a projectile moves so slow it makes it impractical as a weapon (the target can dodge it easily). Frickin' Laser Beams are not usually that slow, merely slow enough to be seen.

They tend to move at about the speed of arrows, which probably originated the trope.
Like I said in the OP, there are two tropes mixed up here. Everythings Cooler With Lasers laser beams don't move particularly slow. However, many computer games have laser beams that move slow enough that you can dodge them, which makes them Painfully Slow Projectiles.
For instance, in Descent, lasers actually move slower than machine gun bullets.
Rhetorical, eh? ... Eight!Painfully Slow Projectile is usually an Acceptable Break from Reality used for gameplay reasons, and it can overlap with Frickin' Laser Beams. So some examples can and should go there, but they should still be on Frickin' Laser Beams as well.
Also, link to Laser Bullet YKTTW.

Rhymes with "Protracted."I say, throw a few hats at Laser Bullet and it's done.

...And even I make no pretense Of having more than common sense - R.W.WoodOkay, so are we agreed that Frickin' Laser Beams is to become "everything's cooler with lasers", and all examples of slow lasers or laser bullets are to be moved to Painfully Slow Projectile and the upcoming Laser Bullet?
Rhetorical, eh? ... Eight!Suppose so.
No, nothing should ever become Everything's Better With X. Redirect Frickin' Laser Beams to Laser Bullet to retain the inbounds. Redlink if possible.
Like it or not, gratuitous use of laser beams for the sake of cool-ness is a trope.
Bump. Are we good with launching Laser Bullet?
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard Feynman^^ No, Either it's gratuitous or it's done for the sake of coolness. Either precludes the other.
^ We're good with creating a page for Laser Bullet, but the YKTTW is not ready for launch.
We should not use the name Everythings Better With Lasers under any circumstances.
Lasers Are Flashy? There's a bit of a humorous double-meaning there, and it puts some extra emphasis on the unrealistic-but-cool nature of the way they're often shown.
Speaking words of fandom: let it squee, let it squee.Clocking.
"If you aren't him, then you apparently got your brain from the same discount retailer, so..." - FighteerI think the extraordinarily slow laser phenomenon should be distinguished from Painfully Slow Projectiles, given that the original problem was that lasers aren'y projectiles. It seems that two new trope pages are needed: a morph of this current page, titled something like Everything's Better With Lasers (discussion on better titles?), and a second page titled something like Suspiciously Slow Lasers.
Stale for two months, locking.

The page on Frickin' Laser Beams combines two different tropes.
According to the header, it's supposed to be about how laser beams in fiction travel slowly (rather than at light speed) and can be traced, dodged, sidestepped, etc.
However, many of the examples are simply about laser beams being used because they're cool - in essence, Everythings Better With Lasers.
I think both are tropes and the name is most suitable for the latter, so I believe a trope split is in order. Let's create Slow Moving Laser (or something similar) as a subtrope.
Rhetorical, eh? ... Eight!
