Ok, two ridiculous things:
1) It took this guy 10 years to get to this point? I've had 20 global meltdowns in an afternoon. I've never played the game all the way the year 4000, but still, that's like one turn per day on average.
2) This guy has had access to nukes and other late-game tech for thousands of turns and he can't break the stalemate? Really? As powerful as spies and mobile troops are at that point it's hard to believe that he's in a position where he can't win but he isn't being curbstomped by the ai.

"But don't give up hope. Everyone is cured sooner or later. In the end we shall shoot you." - O'Brien, 1984That is glorious. This player has somehow constructed the perfect apocalyptic dystopia - literally the more I read on the more I thought "this has to be written up in a book somewhere."
"The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense." - Tom Clancy, paraphrasing Mark Twain. It looks a lot like 1984.

Well, Civilization has officially taught me that the world is eventually doomed to live in a brutal irradiated wartorn extremist dystopia built on the blood of the innocent. And it's all the fault of a football team.
Minnesota always ruins everything.
UN JOUR JE SERAI DE RETOUR PRÈS DE TOIDamn you, Goldstein! I bet he's behind the geurrilla uprisings! SWINE! SWINE!!!
huh...
kinda makes me wanna play the game...
whats the best civilization game?
Depends on what you want. Civ V is the most recent.
Artificial Intelligence is no match for Natural Stupidity.Civ IV if you want something modern, Civ II if you don't mind outdated graphics and a few bugs or Alpha Centauri if you like science fiction.

the most complex one i guess?
Probably Civ II. Civ III onward simplified things a good deal; though that isn't always a bad thing.
Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects.Honestly, I'd just recommend Alpha Centauri, myself. On the bright side, you can get it on GOG, on the downside, they don't have the expansion pack there.
ok, thanks, i'll try Civ2 and Alpha centauri out
I actually recommend Civ VI if you like complexity. The Culture and Religion mechanics are a huge improvement there, and combat is a bit more interesting. Civ II is excellent in terms of game balance and elegant simplicity.
And yes, this thread actually made me dig up my old Windows 98 desktop and fire up Civ II. Currently I'm on a continental crossroads as the Americans, with the Spanish and Mongols fighting a massive war on one side of me and the French and Carthaginians fighting a rather less massive war on the other side. I've sided with the Spaniards and Carthaginians respectively, because the French are easy pickings to plunder and the Mongols are a powerful threat I would like to contain. I don't have to worry about any of them hurting me because I just completed the Great Wall and my territory is bordered by mountain ranges which I have dug in on.
<><does the civ4 mod planetfall include alpha centauri's expansion pack content?

Oh this is one epic game... Wonder if the player can rebuild the world, but seems like the game is trapped in a etenal stalemate.
Interesting stuff although it's somewhat unsettling. So he's been stuck like this for over a thousand years? I think it's about time he change his approach.
I think he's been playing on a high difficulty level like Prince or King, so he simply can't wipe the computer out.
Jonah FalconI thought Prince was considered a low-average difficulty? The difficulties are Chieftain. Warlord, Prince, King, Emperor, and Deity. Chieftan and Warlord both give the AI a handicap, while King and Emperor give you a handicap. Deity just flat-out cheats in an attempt to make your life as miserable as possible.
<><King or Emperor then. I don't remember the difficulty levels from Civ 2.
Jonah FalconI may play one of these games sometime, just to see if the world I wind up with is as crazy as any of the ones I'm hearing about. I mean, a world in which America builds a Great Wall to keep Carthage from invading?
I have a message from another time...- To keep the French from invading. The Carthaginians were my allies.
It's not a pretty sight.
