Assuming you're talking about a laptop, a good place to start would be the actual model of the laptop.
Though if you don't use it as one and mostly use it as a desktop replacement, a cheap TV and a cable can serve just as well.
Avatar SourceYeah, you can't just pop out the screen and put a new screen in... that's not intended to be a user-serviceable part. If you've got substantial electronics repair experience and a suitably equipped toolkit, maybe, but otherwise you should go to the manufacturer/vendor and ask to have it replaced. It's going to be expensive but that's the consequence of such a tightly packed piece of hardware. DIY'ing it is not recommended.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"I once bought a custom-made laptop new and I had to send it back twice because of issues with the way the ribbon cable connecting to the screen was messed up.
Don't try end replacing laptop screens if you aren't willing to just spend on a new computer anyway.
Avatar SourceIt is a laptop. I wasn't intending a DIY job, I got it from an electronics store, (Aeron's) that offered to do the job. If not, I know people much better at it than me. It wold be cheaper than buying a new one at less than $200 if I can get it done outside the store. But I need the new screen to do so. I can find the serial number.
Ok wow that new firefox that rolled out is a memory hog. Its easily taking up twice as much memory as it was before.
Welp finally time to go chrome full on.
Trust me, it's better on this side.
Disgusted, but not surprisedNo thanks, I perfer my personal info not being sold to our corporate overloards.
Your memory issues are kind of strange though, it should be 66% reduction on old firefox acording to benchmarks.
Oh dear, finally!
New firefox update is live, it is actually fast compared to the sloth I was at the beginning of this week.
Inter arma enim silent legesIf anyone, like me, can't give up their vertical or tree style tabs and is frustrated with the fact that WebExtensions (despite the migration from XUL/XPCOM being in the works for two years now) can't currently hide the built-in tab bar, here's a userChrome.css tweak that hides the tab bar and autohides the giant sidebar header. That needs to go in $FIREFOX_PROFILE/chrome/userChrome.css, reload Firefox and it's just like it should be.
God this extension migration is a royal clusterfuck.
Does anyone know where (other than Ebay) I can sell old computer parts? Please respond or PM me with answers?
"Eratoeir is a Gangsta."Maybe if Firefox had somehow avoided being so absurdly laggy before I built a new computer, I might have installed it.
Avatar SourceDepends on how old your looking for.
I am referring to computers from the 2000s as it isn't that old.
"Eratoeir is a Gangsta."So since last night every time I try to access anything on the internet I've been harassed by a pop up asking for username and password. Things I've tried to resolve it.
- Checked the settings to find that they hadn't changed.
- Ran an AVG scan.
- Ran a DEEP AVG scan.
- Got malwarebytes (via flash drive) and scanned and deleted all threats.
- Did a restart with preserved files (oddly game apps and screen savers unaffected)
Is there anything I can do short of a full restart?
The Crystal Caverns A bird's gotta sing.Create a bootable environment on a USB that can run AV tools?
Avatar SourceWhat's that mean?
The Crystal Caverns A bird's gotta sing. This should help. The point of one being that an antivirus that's hidden itself in the registry or boot files won't be detectable by normally running tools as it can start its protections when the computer turns on. But if you're running from USB, it won't have chance to do that.
Avatar SourceThat sounds like it might be a network-level issue honestly.
"Yup. That tasted purple."Or as if the virus in question set your home-site to the phising-site.
C Cleaner can be used to cleanse your browsers cache,cookies,active-logins,etc.
Also try http://www.superantispyware.com/ it purges all tracking cookies and can also scan your registry and boot sector.
What kind of popup is it? You might have an extension installed on your browsers that needs to be logged in, that is not a virus or spyware.
Something like X-Marks which keeps your bookmarks backed up and able to be transferred between mobile devices and computers, it requires a login. If you were logged out via some error you just gotta enter the password again or turn the addon off.
It's a white pop up unrelated to site specific pop ups you might see.
Issue is those are browser based, right? This effects all browsers I had available
Also I have no idea what a restart that wiped everything save personal files should have gotten rid of:

The Crystal Caverns A bird's gotta sing.So... After all that fuss the issue was the net connection. Now my biggest issue is that TV Tropes isn't displaying right. Any ideas as to what's wrong?
The Crystal Caverns A bird's gotta sing.Like what do you mean? Whats it doing? Zoomed in? Pictures not showing up?
Odd spacing, no aethetic flourishes. The formatting's all wrong and it takes a while to load. Only this website is having these problems so far.

I'm trying to fix a computer problem I've had for a while. I have large sections of pixels out on my screen am looking for a replacement screen. But I can't get an answer that will let me know how to look correctly for it. People mentioned needing the serial #, the code, how long etc...but not the best place to search and what to type in. It is a 17.5 screen vertically and horizontally. What else do I need to know to purchase one? Any website recommendations?
