Also, this is another game I have for Wii U (downloaded) that I haven't been able to finish for multiple reasons. It's bad enough there's a new version of Tokyo Mirage Sessions ♯FE that I can't play when I haven't finished the Wii U version, but now this one too?
I will be selfish and say that would annoy me...though for those who never played the original, it'd be great.

Platinum just got a cash infusion from Tencent. Maybe they bought the IP off Nintendo? They aren't doing anything with it and considering another rumor which stated that Nintendo refused to publish a port.
Games with unique controllers can always be built with a standard controller in mind.

I don't know. It seems like it's tougher than they'd like us to think. I mean, there's still no port of Skyward Sword yet.
Then again, that one has a super unique control style even compared to other Wii games I think. At the very least, I've seen a lot of people say it wouldn't be easy to port.

Just as we all thought, Platinum is looking to remaster TW101 for Switch, Steam, and PS4!

Ok so according to the FAQ, Tencent's investment was after their planning for W101: Remastered, so my guess is Nintendo wasn't really thinking of doing anything with the IP -> Negotiations with Platinum -> Kickstarter.
also considering Sega and Bayonetta, that's another party to consider, no matter how minor the cameos are in the game, even if they probably just signed it off.
I wonder if this gearing towards self-publishing with W101: Remastered's announcement is why the radio silence for Bayo 3 has lasted for so long.
So, the funding goal for Wonderful 101 is unrealistically low, probably so Platinum could claim they hit thr funding goal day 1. This is smart, Kickstarters do most of their money making day 1 and day last.
So this is cool but the actual funding target is much higher.

Gematsu did an interview with Kamiya in September, which backs up their claims of Tencent money having nothing to do with this.
Quoting the most relevant part of the interview, bolding mine for emphasis.
Kamiya: “We felt it did not quite reach the audience that it deserved. As creators we are very confident in the game. This project is a unique opportunity to bring the fans together and see how far the game can go, which is why we went the crowdfunding route. We did speak with Nintendo about it initially, but they said, ‘you either do it only with us or do it yourselves.’ But speaking with them they allowed us to cut a deal, so we took upon ourselves to start this project. Dangen Entertainment is helping us. We have seen successful campaigns in the past, Bloodstained in particular, so we saw it as a very unique and interesting opportunity.”

They are only distributing. They state outright in the Kickstarter video that they are self publishing the games ports.

Given that it's been almost six months since that interview, and nowhere in the Kickstarter is Dangen mentioned, it's possible Platinum cut ties with them.
A corpse should be left well enough alone...

Yeah, Dangen isn't mentioned anywhere in the Kickstarter at all.

This does sound like a win win for basically everyone. Platinum gets the game to a wider audience, other console owners get a chance to play it, and Nintendo gets a big cut of the profits via still co-owning the IP.

They're being really vague about who actually has the IP but they did discuss the possibility of Platinum's other Nintendo stuff like Astral Chain also getting ported. It really looks like the W101 bombing hard is what let Nintendo just allow Platinum to do whatever they wanted with it.
Inaba: That’s a question we were expecting to come a lot earlier! (Laughs) But you’re actually the first person to ask.
In the case of Astral Chain, it’s an IP that’s owned half by Platinum and half by Nintendo. So right now it just came out and it’s too early to say. For the time being we’re just hoping that it’s a success for the Nintendo Switch and we’ll see how it goes from there.

Inaba: Ultimately it’s Nintendo’s call, not ours. They own the publishing rights to Astral Chain so really we have no say in that matter. We consider The Wonderful 101 an exclusive case.

- 1.5 million for "Luka's First Mission: a 2D side scrolling adventure featuring Luka", a possible Viewtiful Joe throwback???

This is going to be so much fun.
Seems to be clearcut - Nintendo still owns half and allowed this to happen. So yeah, you will see Nintendo in Steam and PS 4.

Considering the extremely close distribution date of april, it's more likely the switch port was essentially already done - this is more of an advertising campaign doubling as a fundraiser for pc and ps4 ports and maybe polishing/touching up the base port.
already at 900K in twelve hours. Intertwined better be blasting at full volume in platinum's headquaters with the number growing on display.

Gonna have to Press X to doubt on this one. Nintendo owns the IP, and despite a bunch of insiders being smugly sure it's happening, well, they all asured us Star Fox Grand Prix was a real thing.
