You know, Komaru looks an awful lot like Mahiru from SDR 2. She even has that dismissive gesture that I can't name.
If everyone were normal, the world would be a dull place. Like reality television. Now that you've mentioned it I do see that resemblance, it is a bit uncanny.
I finished Absolute Despair Girls last night and thought it was a good spin-off. I liked how self-contained it was despite the fact the whole situation sprung out of 1's story, and how it had a good cast of characters, although I thought they should have done more with Yuuta and Taichi. Because there's no free time events everyone gets all their characterisation done in one play through, compared to 1 and 2 where you had to go through several times (although school life made it less tedious) to get more out of certain characters.
So, while I wait for 3 to come out (or at least get a vague release window), has anyone read any of the Light Novels? Are they worth looking into or not really?
The only one I read is Dangan Ronpa/Zero, which is most absolutely essential for Junko's characterization. There is also the ones included in the games, but you probably already read those, right?
I read If and I'm up to chapter 3 of the one included in ADG.
Drawing those connections between these games is almost a habit for me.
Actually, there also appears to be a bit of Mikan Tsumiki and Peko Pekoyama in her sprites as well. Maybe I should browse the SDR wiki and see how many of Komaru's sprites could simply be a colour swap of an earlier character's expression.
Edit: Darn it. I've always been pronouncing the name as Junk-ko, but it's apparently June-ko.
Well, I never changed my Pokemon pronunciations, I'm not going to start now.

If everyone were normal, the world would be a dull place. Like reality television.Ok. Do not pick up hearts while running. That's twice now it's crashed the game, and it's getting annoying.
If everyone were normal, the world would be a dull place. Like reality television.Huh, I can't remember how I thought her name would be pronounced before I heard it for the first time. You better hope there's no voice recognition in future games.
Also I never encountered that glitch and I'm sure I've been running and picking up hearts a few times. Weird.
It was a very specific area: the first time you encounter Destroyer Monokumas. So maybe it's a mix of the area and the actions.
I also dislike passwords to do with dates. I can never tell which format they intend for you to use, because it feels like every major continent writes them differently, and I can't tell which one they actually wanted.
If everyone were normal, the world would be a dull place. Like reality television. The dates thing is something I can sympathise with as, being from Australia, most games use the American Dating format (MM/DD/YY) rather than the European one (DD/MM/YY).
Anyway, random idea time, now that we know Danganronpa kind of works as a third person shooter, what other genres should they expand to next? I had the following two ideas:
- A Real Time or Turn Based Strategy game where you control a Monokuma army and spread Despair over the world. Like ADG you'd have different kinds of Monokumas for different roles, and the Remnants of Despair would be the hero units. The downside is that there isn't a well defined faction to oppose them, so Future Foundation would need more fleshing out so they could field more units.
- A Prison Tycoon/Sims/Fallout Shelter hybrid where you build up your very own Hope's Peak Academy, fill with unsuspecting students then fill their lives with so much despair they start killing each other (because isn't that why most people play the Sims anyway?), and then for whoever loses the class trials you put them through the execution chambers you've designed.
Dungeon Crawler RPG. I've never gotten over that reskinned Persona Q intro.
I have a specific terror of Junk Monokumas, due to me being completely out of ammo for my first encounter with one.
If everyone were normal, the world would be a dull place. Like reality television.I've never run out of ammo before, but I've come close enough to start sweating. I mainly hate the Junk Monokumas because of how fast they move while I'm trying to hit them, especially when other Monokumas are around drawing my fire.
Well, played it. Thought it was awesome. Too bad DR 2 wont be emulated though :)
Two new announcements today. First is a trailer for New Dangan Ronpa V3, as expected:
The game will follow the fast-paced discussion style of the original games. It's noteworthy that in one frame of the trailer, our new robot protagonist states to be using a Lie Bullet rather than a Truth Bullet.
The surprise for today is a new anime. It's called Dangan Ronpa 3: The End of Kibougamine Gakuen.
[[youtube:R9AQjGxQGdw]]
The anime is being produced by the same team as Gakkou Gurashi. Just like Ultra Despair Girls, this anime be 100% new content for the franchise's worldbuilding. The trailer talks about a new game of mutual killing that affects the entire world. The "goal" of this anime is to fully conclude Naegi and Kibougamine's plotline, so they don't have to get involved in the new game. It's also notable that the text taunting Naegi in the trailer has Komaeda's speech pattern.

Oh, I really hope the protagonist isn't the robot guy.
That's more the sort of outfit I'd expect from Gundham's type. And whether you like him or not, it would wear very thin to hear his shtick every time you held a conversation, or examined a chair.
If everyone were normal, the world would be a dull place. Like reality television. It is. We don't know about his personality yet, so it is early too compare him to Tanaka.

Looks like SDR is making an appearance on Steam.
I guess they saw Valkyria Chronicles do it, and thought "Hey, we could do that too!"
If everyone were normal, the world would be a dull place. Like reality television.I hope this gets enough sales and the 2nd part ends up coming to Steam, too. It'd alleviate some of the pain in my heart for not having a Vita.
2 has already been confirmed as coming to Steam, so it looks like they are super confident in it's selling power.
Some questions about "Dangan Ronpa Zero":
1) How did Junko manage to trick her way into the academy while posing as Ryoko? The academy scouts people, so how did she create the paper trail for a fake identity that could fool them?
2) What, exactly, was the memory wiping procedure that she was experimenting with? Did it involve using the technology the academy used when they created Ultimate Hope?

As the first game was just release at Steam, I foresee a few people joining this thread now, so I think it would be best if you spoilertagged this post.
1) The documentation was probably Yasuke's doing.
2) It was prototype for the device used to steal everyone's memories in the first game.
@Comun: Okay, but:
Who created the prototype? Making a memory wiping device isn't in Junko's talent(s). If Yasuke was the creator, that would make sense, both since he's a neurologist, and as to why Junko was at the academy, since she needed to be where he was for him to test it on her. But if he was the one who made it, how was it perfected after he died? Was he able to go from prototype to perfect after testing it just once on a single person, even though the first test run was for a total memory wipe which left the subject with mental problem?
Junko's damage was done on purpose as Yasuke's attempt to "save her from despair". As for why the machine was perfected after his death, the only explanation the novel provided is "Junko took Yasuke's research papers after killing him".
Eh, it's interesting to see what something like Danganronpa could look like in real life. Would probably be better if that was a video that showed everyone dressed as who they play though. It's also not completely impossible for some to see those shows, since usually someone uploads those kinds of things online for everyone to see. I think the first Stage Play is around Youtube somewhere...
I'm a ghost, you didn't see me.
