Yeah, a lot of people assumed that at some point during the LP anyway. Wasn't much of a surprise.

Though this update was kinda depressing. I mean, losing two years of your life? Murdering and executing your closest friends unknowingly? That's just horrible. I'm wondering how Naegi could possibly keep his cool for so long. I know moving on is important and all but he barely just realized all these revelations.

Running out of evidence bullets too. This really must be the end game now, there's only 4 left, and they're mostly about the headmaster (with one about the places left to explore).

[up][up]Huh. That seems really over the top. Doing all of that for something that'll probably only happen once seems really excessive (I mean, how many people are going to translate a VN and get millions of views?). Though they are right about getting weird people, since tumblr attitudes and mannerisms can be really horrible (plus there were a few real creeps that got permabanned).

Why the FUCK is the SA paywall up again? If you don't want us fucking TV Tropes and Tumblr creeps to fucking invade your fucking elitist assholes, then why the fuck are you putting us a paywall that forces us to fucking give you fucking money to fucking follow one single fucking LP? FUCK YOU, SA, FUCK YOU.

I don't even know why I'm so pissed because I was actually considering getting an account AND the archives upgrade, but the way SA does things just makes me NOT want to give them my money. So yeah.

I wonder if orenronen is getting a cut of anything? If he's not, then he really should be.

... You do know this paywall has existed for years, right? It's not the LP subsection that's currently unviewable, nor is it the Dangan Ronpa thread, it's the entire forum. Why would orenronen get anything? He's just a random member that's not even part of the staff. This isn't some anti-troper or anti-dangan ronpa thing. It's a marketing strategy. You give the people a taste of something they like for free and then you take it away from them. Happens all the time.

Yeah, I fucking hate marketing strategies like that in general. And do you think I'm stupid? Of course I know how SA works. I'm just commenting on the fact that the DR LP is drawing in so many new, non-SA members to the site, increasing ad revenue and membership registrations. And on the fact that SA thinks they're superior to the rest of the internet, despite being nerds just like the rest of us. See that, SA? That's my dick. Now kindly go suck it.

I think reallly the reason why it's so upsetting is due to the fact that they just had an entire month paywall, and now have started another one. Usually SA takes a rather long break before it puts up another paywall(So far, in fact, that I've forgotten the last time there was one. And trust me, I've been checking Something Awful every day for the past 2 years due to my massive amounts boredom and free time.) So, it seems pretty suspicious that another paywall has come up in a span of only a week, right around the time that Dangan Ronpa, which is arguably the most viewed LP at the moment, is having it's climax.

[up][up]Because people like that going in and paying for accounts, and that's not even including the ones who act like idiots and get banned (it costs 10 bucks to unban yourself), help pay for Lowtax's massive college fund. Really, people who don't lurk the entire forum for a long while tend to get themselves banned quickly, so that's not too much of an issue on the admins part. And the LP subforum is pretty much hated on SA for being filled with weirdos. (seriously, there are a bunch of people that came into the DR thread that obviously haven't lurked long enough, or came straight from tumblr.) It makes more money than allowing people to lurk indefinitely, I can tell you that.

Honestly, I don't know if the permanent paywall thing is true. All I saw was a thread on the forums asking the admins to close off the LP subforum to the public forever because of the delicious drama that resulted from it. That, and SA hates tumblr anyway. Really, I heard the paywall was meant to last a month, so it being let down could've been a mistake.

And on the fact that SA thinks they're superior to the rest of the internet, despite being nerds just like the rest of us. See that, SA? That's my dick. Now kindly go suck it.

They have subforums for literature, cinema, and cooking. And goons tend to post only occasionally, so only like half of SA is filled with nerds. And believe me, there's a lot of infighting that goes on in that site.

Seriously, don't get too mad about animu video games, and not being able to read them. Things seem to be wrapping up, so it's probably gonna be on the archive in a few weeks.

[up]Ah. It hasn't been a full month yet? Then things kind of make more sense to me, I guess. I do hope they don't close off the LP Subforum to the public forever, though. That'd suck for basically everyone. I mean, even non-members generate alot of revenue just by skulking around the site. If they seriously close off a fraction of their site that the public is most attracted to, they might get alot more freaks joining up than they'll be able to handle...

Nevertheless, if I ever can get an account, I'll make sure I'll just lurk. I'm not the type to attempt creepy-ass humor or state something stupid aloud that'll be a waste of time for all, but I wouldn't really like to get banned for something simple like introducing myself either....Now to just get a pre-paid credit card...

"They have subforums for literature, cinema, and cooking. And goons tend to post only occasionally, so only like half of SA is filled with nerds. And believe me, there's a lot of infighting that goes on in that site."

Fuck it, I know about all those other subforums! I lurk them too! It's just pisses me the fuck off when the people posting in an LP thread of an obscure non-localized Japanese anime visual novel go all "hurr, durr, look at all those nerds in this thread" and I'm like, hello? Do you even know what you're doing? Just go fuck yourself, you elitist, arrogant snobs.

And yeah, I can believe that it might've been a mistake in letting the paywall down early, since I believe it was supposed to last until sometime in November (don't take my word for it). Or I would believe it, if it isn't a fact that SA looks down on the rest of the internet and enjoys fucking us over, as the thread you mentioned would prove. Fucking bullies, the lot of them.

[up][up] Yeah, that was my plan anyway. Doesn't mean I'm still not fucking pissed at, well, SA being its usual SA self.

(Do you think they'll archive the thread immediately, though? There are still the free time events to cover, not to mention orenronen might not start a new thread for DR Zero and DR 2...?)

I doubt it's closed off forever. Really, the people who suggested that wanted to troll lurkers because of, like I said, the reactions on tumblr. From what I've heard, they've been closing off certain subforums from the public for a month. This month, it happened to close off the Games (which LP is a subforum of) and Batman's Shameful Secret (comics, including webcomics) subforums.

I logged off and took a look around, and it seems like they closed off the entire SA forums, as opposed to certain subforums. So I'm guessing this is a general paywall, and you probably have to wait a week or two before being allowed to lurk freely again.

Yeah, that's a really good idea. Years of lurking have served me well so far. Oh, and

but I wouldn't really like to get banned for something simple like introducing myself either.

Yeah, don't do this. It's against the rules, and it makes you look weird. There's forum rules. Just give a quick look over them, and then just jump right in! It's like going into a cold pool. Once you make your first successful post (One that doesn't get you probated, banned, or called out by the other people in a thread) any anxiety you have about being on that site should disappear.

The mods are actually more lenient than you would think. Just read the rules of the subforums, don't be an idiot (will likely piss someone off and give you an embarrassing custom title and avatar, or get you probated. A ban if you turn out to be a gigantic one), moron, or a creep. (Ban or probation. PERMABAN if you turn out to be something like a pedophile.) Oh, and there's like a special rule in ADTRW (anime subforum) in that you're not allowed to mention the name of a certain anime or manga. (because SA doesn't want to be associated with it, and show up on Google searches if someone decides to search for it. I don't even know the name, just that it's about some 5-year old girl wanting to fuck her teacher. Yeeeaaaaaaahhh...)

(Do you think they'll archive the thread immediately, though? There are still the free time events to cover, not to mention orenronen might not start a new thread for DR Zero and DR 2...?)

It depends really. Some LPs got archived shortly after they were finished. Others took years to get on there. I do know that Pokemon LPs are banned from being on there for a while due to there being too many of them already on there.

[up]Wait, I thought the page for it was restored a while ago? /not sure

  • sigh* It just bugs me in general that SA has the gall to charge people to register an account for a forum. Even worse, they actually charge people for avatars, and you can pay to deface other people's profiles and titles as well? AND you need to pay to access archived threads? It's all so hostile and mean-spirited. Yes, it's a huge site, and yes, it goes to offsetting bandwidth costs, but any decent forum owner will use ads and donations instead. I'm thinking of all those forums and sites where the owner chugs along with just donations because they genuinely want to build a good community and they're genuinely passionate about what they're doing, instead of SA, which just feels like a money-grubbing old creep to me. Like it's all about the money, instead of the community. It's like paying to get into an elite gentleman's club or something, it's just ridiculous.

They do use ads, but sometimes that's not exactly enough. The charging to be able to post on the forums is mainly to deter trolls. Doesn't stop all of them, but stops a majority of them, because who would just waste 10 bucks on a forum just to cause trouble and get banned?

Paying for archives, I'm pretty sure it's like that on other sites too. Not all of them, but SA isn't the only site to do that. (Deviant Art comes to mind.)

Some of these pay for features are actually there, mainly because if everyone had them (and there are a LOT of goons on that site, more than most other forums), it would cause problems, and server overloads, like PMs, avatar uploading, or forums searching. Though with avatars, I'm sure it's to deter people from changing avatars often.

And I think the community's pretty good. Just look in the right places. The people are pretty chill and are generally approachable. (Mock threads would be the wrong places for one thing.)

It's too big, and the sheer size costs them money. With how disparate the whole site is, with many posters just sticking to one or two subforums, it would be best off splitting into different websites run by different people under one Something Awful "brand" name.

Because the leading English-speaking website right now that offers a similarly wide variety of topics and such a large userbase is probably 4chan.

Anyways Syo turned out to be not mind-wiped... but she wasn't there to witness the events first hand, so we have no idea what exactly happened with the despair incident.

So, the MDIIITHOM happened a year after everyone became a student. They agreed with the Headmaster's plan to be locked in the school, so when everything's over, they could help rebuild, being the world's hope. But Junko and Mukuro used that instead to crush any remaining hope in the world by having everyone inside the school kill each other and broadcast all over the world. There were even people who were willing to save them, and she used that opportunity to kill all remaining hope outside the school. Even getting revealed as the mastermind during this trial was part of her plan. By this point, everyone's really shook up, even Kirigiri and Naegi are cracking. Heck, even Syo doesn't find it funny. Anyway, Naegi refuses to believe what Junko says, since she hasn't actually showed them any real evidence of what happened. And then it's time to move on to the votes, on who to punish for all this, Hope or Despair. If there is a single vote against Hope, Junko wins (she's not voting though). If they win, they get to leave. However, if they lose, their punishment would be to live the rest of their lives peacefully in the school, at the expense of Naegi getting executed. Everyone's pretty much convinced of this, even Kirigiri because she wants to respect her father's last wishes. Update stops at the non-stop debate, after hearing it once. The air purifier is programmed to shut down if Junko dies, meaning they'll have to leave into the polluted, uninhabitable world. Junko's words are so poisonous that letting the discussion go all the way through makes your health go down too, so you can't repeat it too much. The only keywords are "Hope" and "......."(multiple times, one for each student except Kirigiri).

Jeez. This is getting crazy. Why did I type all that?

I'll try to explain it in simpler terms:

Naegi and the other students arrive at the school. One year passes where everything is fine and dandy, then The Worst, Most Despair-inducing Incident in the History of Mankind happened. This also affected the school, so much that every student except the class with the students we've seen survived. The headmaster came up with an idea to turn the school into a shelter for them, so that they may survive. Junko and Mukuro spent the next year rigging things so that they could execute their plan: to show the whole world how what is probably one of the last bastion of hope will fall into despair and kill each other. The heavy locks that hinder them from escaping were put up by the students themselves though, as part of the headmaster's plan.

Junko goes on to explain that the motives she gave them are meaningless since the incident happened, so they killed each other for nothing. She then explains the new rules for voting. If "Hope" wins, Junko gets executed, and they can leave. If "Despair" wins, the students will live peacefully inside the school building, but Naegi will get executed (Junko won't be voting though). And just about everyone except Naegi seems uncertain about what to vote for.

Hm... I don't think I described it in simpler terms at all...

So, new update! And with it, the downfall of Junko. Naegi gives back hope to everyone which gives him the bullet "Super High-School Level Hope", which he uses in a climactic battle with Junko. Afterwards, everyone votes for "Hope" and Junko's plan is ruined.

But Junko is so turned on by despair, that she regards this as a "good" outcome for her since she's falling so deep in her own despair, that she executes herself even if the others want her to live. What promptly follows is Junko experiencing the executions of every single culprit + Alter Ego's, Naegi's, and the headmaster's executions in the game, ending with her getting crushed by the Detention one.

To you think Naegi fits The Heart trope? I mean, he has kind of become (or was always) Super High-School Level Hope as of this update.

Don't post here a lot, but I might as well let you know about the next update.

And it's the last update. At least, the last update to the main plot (there's still the remaining free time events and a few bonus scenes to cover).

In short, the students gather at the entrance to the school, exchange words, and then they open the door leading to the outside. Cue the credits.

But, after the credits... the scene cuts to a fallen Monobear in the trial room. Suddenly, he starts talking again... then his head pops up. Sequel Hook!
