Call me painting the crimson barn scarlet, but I don't think Byakuya thought his "Frame Genocide Jack" plan out fully. If Makoto hadn't picked up on it being part of his plan, did he consider what would have happened? They would have voted him the blackened, and ignored anything he said. I don't think he had any evidence that wasn't his own word, and the word of the chief suspect means zilch.

As long as it's not Naegi or Hagakure, everyone seems pretty good at listening to the culprits and everything to the point where you have to explain everything before the trial comes to a vote... though Togami's not exactly the kind of person who'd have faith in people like that. Maybe he realised Kirigiri can save everyone's ass if it comes to that, or is just super-confident in his ability to make the commoners follow his word.

Of course, his attitude seems to be something like "no matter what, I won't lose" to the point of drinking a bottle of what once contained poison because he can't just lick the contents off his finger like normal people. So it's probably just his brand of arrogance.

There are things I don't like about the anime but at least it remembered that there might be some leftover poison in that bottle and that was brought up.

In addition, the game says that the poison isn't that strong, though it's fatal in large doses. If he only expected trace amounts were left, it very well might not be enough to kill him (although it could still cause damage). Still, since he didn't make Naegi drink it for him, he must've been pretty confident nothing bad would happen.

So I watched the anime several months ago and I'm only now getting around to the Vita version. Man I see why the Anime is disdained by fans of the VN; so much characterizations were compressed or simply dumbed down for the show. I'm rather liking it so far.

Question that has to do with the end game though, did Not!Junko know who she really was and was just playing a role at Junko's behest, only to be betrayed by her (Forgot Junko's sister's name), or did she have False Memories which made her think she really was the real Junko? I lean towards the latter.

Yep, Mukuro was totally compliant on impersonating her sister. They were both the Ultimate Despair after all.

[up] Funny, I had assumed she was stabbed in the back somehow. Why'd Junko go through all the trouble of hiding her sister's existence though? It's not like the Fake Junko accomplished much of anything.

Also if Sayaka really was going to sell Makoto down the river, I kinda don't buy Kyouko's argument that she left Leon's name there for his sake. Though on the other hand, it'd be out of character for her to want him to die just out of revenge, but on the other other hand, how much of her personality revealed to Naegi could be said to be the 'real' her anyways?

Furthermore, why Leon? Why would pick a friggin' Athlete for your mark when you're a lithe Pop Idol? Why not Hifumi or Chiharu?

Well, Junko personally prefered the Ultimate Fashtionista title. So for the LOLZ, kinda.

[up][up][up]I know this one!

She did it, because girl-crazy Leon would be the easiest to goad into coming to her room. I'm guessing that she was concerned that the others may have noticed that the position of her room had changed, but Leon would be too wrapped up in "hot girl invited me to her room" fever to notice. Although out of them, Yamada probably would be the next best choice, or maybe even the better choice, period.

Well Yamada might be harder to get with a single invitation because of his whole ~2D only~ thing; he's obviously not as dedicated as he claims, but she couldn't be sure he'd come right away. Besides, that much fat would prevent the knife from hitting anything vital. Not to mention she might've just been repulsed at the thought...

Leon's a good choice for getting him to follow most of the plan, and if she were able to catch him by surprise, his strength wouldn't matter... but I imagine baseball gives pretty good reflexes. I think she just hoped the initial stab would go through. If it didn't, she'd be screwed anyway because what if he just turned and ran?

re: Junko, Mukuro was compliant with everything up until her death, but Junko did pretty much all of the planning and Mukuro tends to just go along with what Junko wants. It was only really important that one of the sisters is hidden, but having a fake Junko around is better for the whole "the mastermind is a student you knew!!" reveal. Plus, uh, Naegi and presumably everyone knew that super-charismatic SHSL Gyaru Enoshima Junko was going to be there prior to entering the school, since it was on that 2ch thread. Anyway, if you play School Mode, you'll see a bit more of Mukuro shine through (or click here for a summary), and it's kinda hilarious.

"Wanna check out the fashion magazines?

  • MUKURO: Umm…not really. It’s not like I need to know how to dress nice.
  • NAEGI: …Huh? But Junko…aren’t you a model?
  • MUKURO: Oh! Yeah! I am! But, see…
  • MUKURO: I mean, I’m the one setting the trends, right? So, like, why would I need to look at a magazine?
  • MUKURO: Er—Makoto! Stop underestimating the Ultimate Fashionista!
  • I get the feeling she didn’t have much fun…"

"The grass is so lush and green…

  • MUKURO: Oh, yeah! It reminds me of my old ghillie suit.
  • MUKURO: Er—ah, I mean! My old grouch suit! You know! Oscar the Grouch!
  • MUKURO: That’s totally a thing!
  • MUKURO: I had a little Oscar costume when I was a kid, but this grass just made me remember it!
  • MUKURO: …For some reason, being around you keeps making me drop my guard lower and lower.
  • It looks to me like she had a really good time."

OK, those two were really bad. Seriously. I can totally see why Junko[ did not waste any time in getting rid of this ridiculous actress.

Also, The Life Like Tex Tube's group is doing SDR 2's Chapter 6 already, if anyone is interested.

Not coincidentally, those are probably my two favourite dialogues from her.

It would have been absolutely amazing if she was just going like that for the whole game though. I mean, that wasn't supposed to happen anyway— if you look at the dialogue between Monobear and Mukuro, you'll see what Mukuro thought was going to happen, that she was going to supposedly be locked up all alone in a dark cell which is an excuse to get her out of the game—so killing her wasn't necessary just to get Mukuro out of the way, and it would've made the mystery... not really a mystery... but, er, then at least she'd get to be relevant to anything herself.

[up]So you saying Mukuro didn't know her sister would kill her?

Also, is The Most Despair-Inducing Event In History given more details in Danganronpa 2? I'd assume Junko caused it somehow.

She didn't knew it.

And it is indeed given "more detail" but it is not given enough detail. It is kind of just as vague as it were before (at least before Chapter 6's trial. More info can be dumped during the trial)

A fashion model who was born with ultimate despair. Or so she says.

Mukuro didn't know she was going to die, which is also pointed out in the last trial (though maybe the anime skipped over that bit?).

You'll need to read Dangan Ronpa 0 for full context on the despair-inducing incident, but SDR2 will provide a few more details. It came with SDR2 originally, but unfortunately it seems DR0 won't be translated (until oren finishes it)... we do get translated DR: IF, meaning more Mukuro, but it's not as vital for understanding the storyline.

What's DR 2's reputation btw? I plan on picking it up, but is it considered a 'More of the same' type deal or does it improve on the original in any meaningful ways.

The fan translations weren't finished before the official translation was announced, so they were never released.

It took me a while to warm up to SDR2, but it's generally an improvement on DR and, well, it's an extension to DR's story. Much of the game is similar, of course, but the trial segments are improved, with new minigames and the other students being more proactive in trials, so you feel less like you and a couple of others are doing all the thinking. Trials are more dynamic that way. It does have a lot more fanservice, though.

I also recall someone mentioning that you see the other Ultimate Students using their skills a lot more often than in the first game.

Considering the talents that they had included, it's kind of understandable.

Oh, yeah, their talents are certainly more relevant this time around. Many of them are actually important to the events unfolding in the game rather than... er... being related to their personalities or whatever.
