The image tells you absolutely nothing. It is merely a picture of the trope namer, but does not actually show the trope.

Quick screenshot from Heroes Of Might And Magic 3: 1◊. I can take one of the other resources too if gold/wood/mercury/sulphur/crystal/gems are preferred.

Though I might have misunderstood something here - is the trope really just "there are resources in your world" and that's it?

The trope is "you need some ressource for the game". Hence, the proposal ^ is not very strong, as it lacks the "you need" bit.

Any other thoughts on these? I'm not where I can look at them right now and we need to decide if we're going to act on of these or just lock up.

The second, simpler one could work; it may be worth seeing. I'm not a fan of the first.
