Man, I really think it might be good idea to create a topic in OTC to discuss about Japanese corporate culture...consider what's been happening right now...
Give me cute or give me...something?I hate Capcom's upper management/heads. I still support those who put their sweat and blood to actually make the games(well most of them), however.
Yeah, this thread would probably fit in with the On-Topic Conversations. Let me tell you, it can be so hard to start up an OTC, because the moderators have to approve it, and I can swear to you that a number of attempts I've made in that section just get deleted after awhile.
Maybe the opening post wanted this discussion to be put somewhere where it doesn't have to go through the approval process and likely get deleted.
Oh, Equestria, we stand on guard for thee!First of all, Microsoft is HUGE!!1!! Much of its size is based on its earlier success before video games, on stuff like personal computers. If you just take Microsoft's video game department, it's a lot smaller. It's still BIG!!1!, but it's not nearly as big.
Second, Japan used to be top dog when it came to console games; Europe and North America only began catching up in the late 90's, and finally superceded them during the 2000's. Because many gamers are nostalgic, they look back to the "good old days" and see Japanese companies controlling the medium. A good example of this is how many "iconic" characters are from Japan; basically Nintendo's entire roster, Sonic the Hedgehog, Solid Snake, Cloud Strife... I'm guessing that in ten years, we're going to see quite a few more icons from other places, since now less people are playing games from Japan. We already have a few like Spyro and Crash.
Finally, there's still some rather large Japanese video game companies. They might be in decline, but they're still kicking.

Fight. Struggle. Endure. Suffer. LIVE.Spyro and Crash aren't doing very well these days, though.
...are they?
I have a message from another time...Crash, proabably not...Spyro...do you count Skylanders?
Give me cute or give me...something?what do the american branches of companies like nintendo and sony actually do?
i mean i know they do localizations and advertise...but anything else?
Merchandise, make some games that go the opposite route in localization, etc.
I have a message from another time...Don't forget that Japanese companies can own American development houses, too (coughRetroStudioscough).
pretty much most Sony PS 3 First party game made by westerners
I wonder what Western game developers are in trouble now... I know THQ is.
I am completely, utterly, and thoroughly done with Sola Sonica and 2D
