=================== Sorry everyone. Had some trouble with a broken link. Please ignore the first four replies. ===================

Forgive me for being a bit of an entry pimp, but I'd like to replace the current picture with this - [1]

I think it portrays the trope as well as it can be portrayed in a picture. One side bright and clear, the other dark and burned, and a hero as the bridge from one side to the other. The concept is clear enough to avoid being just a face and a captain, but it's still a warm feeling for anyone who recognizes the character. Plus, I just think it's a neat picture.

As for the current picture...I would prefer to avoid mixing a very high concept like hope with politics and advertising and this is both and not much else.

The name is too long. The forum software adds "- " and a line break to the middle. It must be uploaded with a shorter name. (Or use a truncated redirect, like tinyyrl.com, but that would make the image a link instead of appearing on the post.)

On the image file on your computer, go to "Save As..." and choose a short name like "Hope Bringer suggestion". This will save a copy of the image under that name, which you should then be able to upload without any trouble.

Alternatively, we can just view this link that Rodney provided. This one can't be hotlinked, but it's short enough that it doesn't have a line break. It can be made by copying the original link in your post, pasting it into the shortener at tinyurl, and manually deleting the hyphen and space.

That was the amazing part. Things just keep going.

What's it from? I'm guessing Iron Man but I honestly don't know.

And yeah, I kind of agree that Obama is a bit too polarizing a figure, at this point, to really work for this page.

Well, the poster is attempting to evoke the trope. Whether it succeeds depends on your political position.

I really like the robot arm pic; it's clear that it's giving emotional support to the kid.

I prefer the robot arm. It's just as good of an image as the current one, but not as political.

The Internet misuses, abuses, and overuses everything.

It's Commander Shepard of Mass Effect.

So, it looks like I'm good to go?

The pic works well enough for me.

I'm guessing not a whole lot of people spend time on this forum.

If not a lot of people reply to the post, that must mean not a lot of people spend time on the forum?

That guess is wrong :) I don't post much outside the "Workshop" forums, so I wouldn't know if OTC is really busy or something, but IP is roughly as active as TRS.

I don't think the suggestion illustrates "This character acts as the inspiration for his civilization." The Obama poster is pretty decent, says "hope" and everything.

The Obama picture wouldn't have a thing to do with hope if "hope" wasn't plastered on the bottom. Besides, while people may or may not think he's a good politician, he certainly is not the 'inspiration for a civilization' or anything like that. So it doesn't work at first glance and it doesn't work with context.

Is there likely to be a good screenshot of Aragorn being a bringer of hope and all, since one of his names was Estel (the Elvish for hope)? It's been a while since I watched the films.

That was the amazing part. Things just keep going.

The reason I like my picture is because is shows the "bringing" part of hope bringer in action. There's plenty of pictures and plenty of moments in fiction featuring a leader surrounded by adoring crowds, but that doesn't show hope. In the picture I put up, there's no question of what's going on.

The whole reason that only the arms are shown is because the person on the bottom is meant to symbolize all of humanity, not just one person.

I've been looking at some of the time stamps. Some of these threads have been here for weeks or even months. I saw one started back in November.

I'm all for being thorough, but seven months to pick a picture is insane. I hope I don't have to wait that long.

Forget you know who that is. Even without context it is a good image. Clearly a poster, leaderly expression / body language, hopeful message.

w00t. I'm back to unanimous approval.

Heh. w00t. I haven't typed that since the days when I used to play Runescape.
