Welp, War Spoils 2.0 just went live. Good thing Relic decided to leave it to the players to manually salvage their duplicate War Spoils for Supply Points. And it turns out 500 Supply Points for each duplicate War Spoil is a pretty fair deal. (And yes, this also applies to the drops I got from playing the "All Units Mod". Phew.)

Anyway, managed to buy the Wehrmacht's Mechanized Assault Doctrine and the British Special Weapons Regiment, completed the Wehrmacht's Late War Factory Pattern and OKW's Two-Tone Field Pattern skin sets, and got that "Veteran Training: Infantry" bulletin for the USF/OKW. Note 1  Not to mention got a few other bulletins, some that I haven't got (like the armor boost for the T-34/85) and some with dual stat boosts (like the one for the long-gun StuG III that boosts both penetration chance and unit armor).

My only gripe, though: I still have some missing unique faction-specific Victory Strikes, but they're not in the in-game store except within the big-ass bundles that you can only buy with real cash... Plus the only Victory Strikes there are the generic ones that can be used by all factions. Other than that, looks like I won't have to borrow Angry Joe's catchphrase. EDIT: This has now been fixed, and faction-specific Victory Strikes are now available for purchase with Supply. (Thank goodness. smile)

Also, as promised, here are some screencaps of my good (Commander) drops (Though sadly does not include the OKW's Fortifications Doctrine drops that I forgot to screencap. Also, censoring my Steam handle for now.):

And finally, while a bit late, here are my other impressions about the May Balance Preview Mod:

  • AP bullets for USF M2HB .50-cal HMGs is a welcome addition, as well as the cheap indirect fire of the new mortar unit.
  • Sad to have missed the Assault Package upgrades for Penal Battalions. Then again, there's already Conscript PPSh-41s and Shock Troops filling that role for certain commanders.
  • Panzershrecks for Sturmpioneers. I don't mind much as Sturmpios aren't as easily "blobbed" as Volks due to their higher manpower price, smaller squad numbers and crappy on-the-move accuracy. It's best to keep them out of the way of ranged infantry or HMGs.
  • I still hope they can keep the HMG42 for the OKW's Luftwaffe Ground Forces and Fortifications Doctrines when it goes live.

Fortification Doctrine

Developer Comments: Replaces the MG 34 in the Doctrine

Replaced MG34 call in for LeFH 18 Artillery

Eh? Then shouldn't that be on the same command point level as the PaK 43s? (IIRC, that's the case with the Wehrmacht's Joint Operations Doctrine).

If players are allowed to keep the May Balance Preview mod with the HMG42s, that'd be swell (unless they changed it to that already).

At least the Luftwaffe Ground Forces Doctrine's new ability (Recon Overflight) seems more useful when combined with the Fallschirmjager assault drop, as it allows the player to scout for territories occupied by the enemy (provided they have enough munitions).

I'm not saying it is, buuuuuuut...yeah, it kind of is.

Pretty sure the mod doesn't disappear, I've still got an entry in my settings list for an old balance preview that you can't subscribe to you anymore, but you'll of course have to keep looking for it in custom games instead of matchmaking.

Played a test game with the OKW Fortifications Doctrine with the new update.

  • The leFH is too scattershot for my tastes (especially at longer ranges), plus it doesn't reach level 5 veterancy.
  • You're more dependent now on the bunkers (for infantry suppression) and 2cm flak cannons (besides the PaK 43s which I only use to cover areas vehicles are most likely to pass), so there's a risk of building yourself into a corner (pop cap-wise) if your ally doesn't construct ammo dumps (more ammo for the bunker MG upgrades) and train/build offensive units.
  • If you want to use HMG 34s, you'll have to waste one Intel Bulletin slot for "Officer Training: Heavy Machine Gun" (+3% accuracy compared to the "Recruit Training: Heavy Machine Gun"/"Hold Still" Intel Bulletins, both of which give only +2% accuracy) to make them more effective at killing units. Not to mention you'll have to build your Tier-1 building as soon as possible to unlock them, which becomes a problem when facing against a Soviet player. Either you build a supply halftrack ASAP and risk being swarmed by Conscripts/Penals/Shock Troops/Guards or any combination of the four, or build enough Volks to defend yourself with (and hope you have enough ammo to upgrade two or more squads with Sturmgewehrs—Volks can only use their grenades once their Tier-1 building is set up) and risk suppression from Dushkas/Maxims.

I then played a test game with the May Balance Preview mod post-update (hoping that the HMG 42 call-in is still there).

  • Can't build leFH arty and can't deploy HMG 42s. Such misfortune... sad

Company of Heroes 2 - The British Forces is on sale via Steam. The description says: "By buying The British Forces, players who do not yet own any COH 2 product can access all existing Company of Heroes 2 maps in auto-match, and play against all other existing factions in multiplayer or through skirmishes against the AI."

This is saying nothing about players who already own COH2, like me. Should I or should I not buy this "expansion"?

Well, if you want to play as the British, sure. If you have no interest, do not. You will have no issues accessing anything else you've bought if you do not.

Thanks. I had already nixed it a couple of hours ago because I discovered that the offered content is strictly limited to online multiplayer, with no singleplayer content whatsoever.

Yep, no British campaign or scenario maps yet whatsoever. Probably in the near future though, since they already made one for the US Army and OKW.

It's not something concrete to discuss, but if you gave Relic your email, there's a survey about the direction for what you want out of a new game/campaign. They ask about stuff like whether you'd like morale mechanics, do you want it to be linear, what armies do you want to see; do you want to fight in Sicily, Italy, Libya, Tunisia, etc.

[up]I saw that email awhile back, probably all the way in September or earlier. in addition to trying to figure out whether singleplayer campaigns or multiplayer was more preferred, it was also asking a bunch of questions about mixed armies, with the implication that they were planning to dump the realism and allow you to mash together whatever type of custom faction you wanted. I wasn't the slightest bit happy with their potential direction, so in the comments I made sure to voice my dislike of such a design, especially in the Co H franchise.

I also voiced how I'd like to see a Pacific campaign with the IJN versus the USMC. The island-hopping campaign would be the perfect setting for Co H's gameplay.

I heard about that older one and didn't get it myself, and I'm pretty sure other people recently got it too, so this survey's either new or a recent re-send. I don't recall this one mentioning custom commanders or anything either too.

Slight necro/cross-post from the Steam Summer Sale 2018 thread.

Well, finally re-downloaded/re-validated the required game files for Company of Heroes 2 (after the game failed to start up recently) and took a look at the in-game store to see if there's stuff on sale at a discount (coinciding with the 2018 Steam Summer Sale).

Commanders and skin sets: 15% off. Commander/Faceplate bundles: 20% to 33% off. Hooray.

Though I do wonder if players still earn 500 Supply Points after three successful matches? (Provided it's not a new item drop.) I hope it's still the same after the new patches and revamps to the commanders.

[up][up]The in-game items almost never go on sale during the same period as the Steam Sales. You've usually got better odds finding a deal during Sega's "Make Love not War" events.

Company of Heroes 2 is being given away for free to keep until December 10th, 2018. Most of its other DLC is being discounted by around 75%.

Damn, should have told my Rome II-playing friend to get CoH 2 for free when I had the chance. Oh well...

After stopping at 1,945 hours of playtime, I've resumed playing Company of Heroes 2. Though achievement-hunting makes my game sessions (usually three comp-stomp games in a row) last longer than usual.

At the moment, I'm seeking the "BLITZKRIEG" achievement as the Wehrmacht (deploy 50 Mechanized Panzergrenadiers and 50 Mechanized Grenadiers) and "Up Close and Personal" as the Soviets (Kill 150 Anti-tank Gun team members with T-70 light tanks). And that's in between "breather games" as the US, OKW and British.

Well, this was unexpected. A Company of Heroes board game. Apparently they've been public about it since November last year.

'42 gunners yelling about WHAT THE FUCK DOES OORAH MEAN!? probably not included, tragically.

And still no Imperial Japanese Army or US Marine Corps? C'mon, it's such an obvious idea for an expansion!

The Wehraboo fan base would riot if they ever got a COH game that ‘’lacks’’ the Germans. [lol]

Sadly, I believe I've seen a few developers comment on the topic as "Pretty much certainly not right now."

I can kinda get that angle since I'd imagine doing it right would require, at least, making tanks almost not exist in the game while the IJA were mostly left to attack them with close-range basically-suicide AT weaponry aside from their AT guns. The Japanese's infamy for using caves and ambushes along with banzai charges are also probably concepts I'd regard as far more avant-garde than other stuff in the series thus far and would require effort and work that would probably be more worthy of a sequel to implement.

Not how I expected to necro this thread

Also this video informed me that the Pershing's turret ejects shell casings after firing, shows how much I've used it.
