That's a pretty obscure character to cosplay too. Although one of the more creative choices, I must say.

Also Viz just announced they were releasing new Inuyasha merchandise, towards the bottom:

I just got done watching Final Act on Tuesday...

I actually like Final Act more than the original...namely because a lot of the issues with the original anime are gone in Final Act.

Anyone have a favorite character in Inu Yasha? If my Avatar isn't enough of a clue, it's Sango.

...such as?

I never watched the original all the way through, and I haven't started The Final Act either.

Filler for one.

Like holy shit the original stalled like hell.

Final Act also has very little scenes where Kagome and Sango "abuse" Inu Yasha and Miroku. Like there's only one scene where Sango slaps Miroku, and only two "Sit!" scenes.

Final Act also has my favorite moment from the franchise: Sango hugging Kohaku after Kikyo's light revives him.

While FA does it's job I feel it kind of goes too fast in some episodes, Hell I feel like Kagura just made a cameo in the show.

[up] The original was taking me so long to get through, I just said "fuck it, I'm skipping to FA."

I think the original was 167 episodes.

[up]Yeah, and it took me a year to get to episode 50.

Having other shows to watch during that time didn't help.

Do you guys think that Kagome is as much a poster child for Launcher of a Thousand Ships as Katara is?

Anyone have any idea what trope applies to Naraku splitting off parts of himself into his "detachments"/"incarnations"? They don't seem to quite fit the Literal Split Personality trope — at least, for most of them.

I think Naraku is a variation of a Truly Single Parent, he just uses Black Magic instead of mad science. [lol]

Except that they are extensions of his existence that he can reabsorb whenever he wants (provided he's within close enough proximity), and in one case the death of the extension (or rather, the destruction of his heart, which is Naraku's actual heart) would've spelled Naraku's permanent death as well.

Yes but Naraku can just absorb anything anyway so I don't think reabsorbing the incarnations is a super special power [lol]

Those Adult Swim all-nighters. There was a period where I could've sworn the second ending was the only one, I must have missed so many episodes and just caught the credits.

I can't help but notice that anime credits haven't resonated the same way these did. This, Yu Yu, Gungrave, Cowboy Bebop, and FMA had some great songs in their credits.

ED 1 "My Will" is the ending I will always associate with Inuyasha. ED 3 "Dearest" is the best ending in any anime ever as far as I'm concerned but nothing hits me with the same level of nostalgia as the first Inuyasha ending. I watched Pokemon and DBZ before Inuyasha but Inuyasha was my gateway anime for a couple reasons.

1. It wasn't Americanized. I recognized it as a foreign product, whereas DBZ and Pokemon were just cartoons to me like any other.

2. It was more mature. I was 13-14 at the time, Freshman/Sophomore in high school and IY was just a lot more...adult than what I had seen previously. In spite of being a shounen, IY has very little in the way of action and is filled to the brim with drama. Maybe it's badly done melodrama to some but it was still very special to me at the time.

Hearing that first ED immediately summons forth a wave of memories and emotions from when I first discovered the series and fell in love with it.

I don't much like Final Act because, if the original anime was too slow, FA went too far in the opposite direction. Everything was ridiculously fast. The breakneck pacing gives you no time to enjoy much of anything.

I hope only that, one day, VIZ will be able to secure the digital manga rights to Inuyasha. I want to read it. From everything I have read, FA omitted so many things.

In conclusion

P.S.

For people complaining about filler, please direct your attention to EVERY OTHER POPULAR SHOUNEN EVER. Naruto, Bleach and One Piece laugh at IY's paltry level of filler, as does DBZ and Yugioh.

P.S.S.

My favorite IY character is Kagome. I have always loved her and I always will.

Kikyo's characterization is also radically different in the manga then it is in the Anime, that alone is a good reason to give it a look.

Yes her character sheet made it sound like she was much more villainous in the anime than in the original manga.

Also in the manga she and Kagome are actually identical instead of it just being an Informed Attribute.

Still, unless Kikyo didn't actually nearly kill Kagome in the manga when she stole their chunk of the Shikon Jewel as she did in the anime, Imma continue to hate her. Well, not hate per se, but when she nearly killed Kagome in the anime so she could just turn around and give the Shikon Jewel to Naraku, that kind of damned her in my eyes for a long while.

Another one of my fave characters, apart from Kagome, was Jakotsu.

She didn't from what I remember. She also didnt threaten Inuyasha when he saves her from the giant Soul Collector (They actually just re fall in love there.) And Kikyo actively uses magic to make sure Naraku can't kill her as long as he has Onigumo's heart.

Did anyone really expect that they'd complete the Shikon Jewel with Kohaku dying? I already had spoiled it for myself before skipping to Final Act (it was just taking me too long to finish the original, since I was at episode 50 a year after I started watching the anime).

I like this series so much that I made Mii fighters of a few characters to use in Super Smash Bros (Inu Yasha himself, Kagome, Miroku, Sango, Sesshoumaru, and Kohaku). Though I did make Miis of other anime protagonists (Sailor Moon, Sailor Mercury, Sailor Mars, Sailor Jupiter, Sailor Venus, Son Goku, Vegeta, Naruto, Ichigo, Edward Elric, Homura Akemi, Sayaka Miki, and Kyoko Sakura).

Looking up Comments on YT can be very depressing depending on what video you look at but other times it can be pretty uplifting.

I see a lot of nostalgia from my fellow late 20-somethings but I also see people who are now only in their teens or early 20s which mean they wren't merely swept in by the Anime Boom. They found IY later and still like it.

Inuyasha will always hold a special place in my heart and I'm glad it hasn't been forgotten by the later generations.

Inuyasha is finally getting a bluray release. Season 1 comes out July 14th.

https://www.rightstufanime.com/Inu-Yasha-Set-1-Blu-ray

Inuyasha is a timeless gem for me, as good now as it was back in 2003. I haven't rewatched the entire anime in years and I feel like Season 2 and 3 are the peak of the series. Nevertheless, Season 1 is where the magic all began.

Apologies for the necro, but one thing has been just randomly niggling at me and I was wondering if it was ever addressed: where is Kikyo's soul? I know it reincarnates as Kagome, but where has it been for the centuries in between?

Or more specifically, where was it when the witch first made the Kikyo puppet. She seemed to basically give up when she couldn't find the soul until she eventually Kagome's so... what was the plan? Did the soul go through the well and reincarnate in 1950's Japan until that person died?

No idea if this is addressed or anything, I haven't finished anything, but it's something I often think about.
