So I love the 80s. long before I even knew there was a VH 1 thing called that I realized it. I would probably trace it back to me seeing a commercial for Grand Theft Auto Vice City which was playing to "I Ran". I also love pretty much every track the game has on its pop stations. It's how I discovered Laura Branigan and The Human League who, while I love most 80s pop artists, are two of my favorites.

I think I must simply love what I've seen of 80s pop culture in movies, games and TV. I kinda wish I had been around back then....

Anyway, the topic at hand. I'm not sure what it is I like about the music then. I'm not exactly musically inclined - I just listen to stuff and I like it or don't like it. Is there anything particularly different or special about pop in the 80s?

Do people here find they like 80s pop more than any other decade? Any artists in particular that you fancy?

Synths became a lot more popular then, for better or worse.

I'd say I love '80s music, but I think that'd be redundant considering my love for music crosses through many decades.

Insert witty and clever quip here. My page, as the database hates my handle.

I don't really prefer the 80's over any other decade, but I'm definitely not averse to them.

Also,

Fantastic and Fantastically 80's.

[up][up] I don't have anything else of theirs, but A-Ha's Hunting High And Low is actually really good all around. Sometimes a bit more melancholy-sounding than you'd expect from "Take On Me", but really well-arranged, catchy Synth-Pop.

There's this 80's dance night I like to go to on weekends, and what I particularly like about it is that it ranges from the super-mainstream (Prince, Madonna, Duran Duran) to a bit more underground (I've heard Gang Of Four, Killing Joke, Joy Division) - basically as long as it's somehow danceable.

Oh yeah, I also wanted to bring up New Order:

Earth is the only planet inhabitable by Nicolas Cage.
