Is the ST:TNG chip pic on the page close enough to work? I'm not where I can look at it right now.
Gotta say, though, the current pic's amusing.
I like the current image.
I'm not crazy, I just don't give a darn! The current picture isn't really an example, but it illustrates the trope rather well.
The Internet misuses, abuses, and overuses everything.I considered using the Trek and Orions Arm images, but they aren't terribly strong. The Trek one is mostly colored plastic, not even gem shaped. The Orions Arm one is microscope views of the lattice. The best alternative was the B5 one, which does have a nice crystal on it... but it doesn't do much to show the "data" side. So when I ran into the current image on GIS, I thought, "why not?" it conveys both sides of the trope and it's pretty neat.
I would prefer using a real example, like an isoliner rod from DS 9.
IT'S A FAKE!!! comes to mind.

Sparkling and glittering! Jan-Ken-Pon!You mean this guy?◊
Yes that guy.
Sparkling and glittering! Jan-Ken-Pon!It ought to be possible to get B5 screenshots of people sticking data crystals into computer ports.
Oppression anywhere is a threat to democracy everywhere.GIS didn't do too hot for B5 or Stargate, however it did bring Quinlan Vos up.

You can use a site like TinyURL for the link issue.
I like that.

...And even I make no pretense Of having more than common sense - R.W.WoodThe 4th panel?
Lets put this to bed. Here's the alternatives, is either of these better than the amusement factor of the original?

Both actually demonstrate the trope, so I'd say they're inherently better than the current, amusement factor aside.
I prefer the second one, and it won't hang down into the examples. Hopefully.
That was the amazing part. Things just keep going. The current is better than the suggestions. It illustrates the trope without a single word of text. Unless someone genuinely thinks the picture will mislead readers into thinking it's a trope about USB drives, I don't see a reason to change it.
In the first one, I don't see the Data part. In the second, I see a metal pyramid, so no Crystal part.
The Internet misuses, abuses, and overuses everything.Clock is set.
Clock's up; locking for inactivity/lack of consensus. No action is to be taken based on this thread.
I think we need something from a work in here. Not to mention, the trope seems to be 'data imprinted on crystals'
