He does have that metal detector thing going on, but I'm not sure that both frames are really necessary.

The first panel doesn't really show it very well, either. The focus there is more on the people relaxing than the actual beachcombing.

The current pic does kind of show the trope, but it has more focus on the classic "buried in sand" (which may or may not be a trope) than "person searching for stuff with a metal detector".
