I have read the first two thirds of the first book and while I am not sure what your threshold is for literary erotica, I would say it is porn. I would be sad to see it go though as I wouldn't have known it existed if it hadn’t been for this site.

Despite it sounding like something I'd hate on every possible level, I gotta ask what you're basing that on? The examples on the page make it sound like there's a bit too much other stuff going on to be "only for arousal", although "primarily" wouldn't surprise me.

As I said, I have only read two thirds of the first book and most of the other stuff seems to happen further on in the series. There is a plot for the first book that is generally the characters from the normal world exploring Slave World and their reactions to the society for the first part then the main character becoming concerned about her and her friends becoming enslaved and the final part is her life as a slave.

I would say it is porn as it would not be something I would be comfortable for people I know to find out I was reading it and there are some rather graphic (from my experience but this is the first erotic novel I have read) sex scenes. As I said I don't know the threshold for literature porn.

That description doesn't quite sound porny, and "it would not be something I would be comfortable people I know were reading" is not quite readable by me.

[up]Sorry about that, fixed it (wait are you tlking about that sentance itself or the subject?)

In the story slaves are pretty much only Sex Slaves, Ponygirls/boys and the like, and are geneticly modified to be horny all the time. There is quite a bit of sex, mostly Ff but some Mf, Fm, F Mf, Fmmff etc. There is also a lot of bondage, whipping etc.

Yeah, that's not quite the indicator. Hell, the name alone is enough for it to be uncomfortable to read around others.

If you want I could post an except with rude words replaced by the word puppy if you want. As I said I would love to keep it personally but I do consider it porn

How often do such scenes occur? How big part of a chapter does a sex scene usually take?

The sex scenes get more common as the book goes on. There is the post hunt orgy within the first 30 pages and most of the sex is handled in a rather casual manner, such as when the Prince of Wales was leading a slave round on a leash only for him to turn around and find the son of the German ambassador having sex with her. His reaction is annoyance that he forgot to mark her with the tag that said nobody else could have sex with her without his permission.

Ff but some Mf, Fm, F Mf, Fmmff etc.

Well, when the listing of the different pairings reads like dialog you'd get from a character wearing a ball-gag, it does make the work sound fairly porny!

[up]So just how young are the lowercase ms and fs, then? Because that could be a problem.

What's precedent ever done for us?

[up][up]Well ball gags are a favourite of Lady Isabel

[up]University. If I remember correctly it is illegal for under 18s to own a slave or be a slave.

I don't think lowercasing has anything to do with age in this context.

And I'm still not really getting an overall impression of the amount of sex in this. It's not the number of events that's the issue, it's how much time is spent on that versus on other things. (Or at least, I'm pretty sure that's important.)

[up]It's standard porn coding. Uppercase and lowercase denote age differences. MF, for example, means 'sex between male and female adults of roughly equivalent age', whilst Mf means 'sex between a male adult and a female child/teenager/young adult'. Likewise, the number of letters denotes the maximum number of participants in a single sex scene, for instance FFF (lesbian threesome), or MMF (two guys, one girl).

[up] In BDSM Upper case = Dom, Lower Case = Slave

Well the point is that the entire Slave World revolves around sex. The only sports/games that are referenced are things like naked Ponygirl/boy races, Strap-On wrestling (The winner is the first slave to insert the strap-on in their opponent's arse), Slave Curling (Like normal curling just with naked and hogtied slaves) and spank offs (suspend a slave on tiptoes, insert dildo, whip until they orgasm, the first to three wins). The plot is really there to get the characters into a position of sexual slavery.

Of course this is all for the first book, I haven’t read the rest of the series yet.

Going by the discussion, I am inclined to call it porn, given that Amazon classifies it as "Erotica". What concerns me the most is the adult/teen sex issue though.

Edit:[up] Mostly there to get characters in sex slavery? Yeah, that's a cut vote right there.

I would like to break my silence again to say that it sounds like one of the more ridiculous excuses for porn I've heard of in my life.

[up][up]Well that is my reading of it anyway. There is the whole revenge thing where the University Professor colluded with the Slave World residents to enslave her lab assistants/students but you don't find that out until the end. As I said the youngest slave is 18, the oldest is 62 (who looks 38) but nobody has sex with her, they just feel her up.

EDIT: Off to work now so I won't be able to answer any other questions until I get back.

Sorry for the change of gears, but as you know, I have been getting frustrated with the lack of progress on cleanup on several works. Do you think it would help if we moved the thread from Special Efforts to here?

No, the issue is simply that there are too many projects going on there already. Plus, CVD's job is kinda different from that of a cleanup thread. And we don't need even more stickies here

What Sebastian Gray posted is the interpretation for capitalization that I've seen before. Although far more often I see stuff like that in tag systems that don't seem to use upper-case letters at all.

I have to go again now but I will say that while everything I put above is true of the first book in the Slave World series but I don't know about the rest. From reading around there may be more to it but it is still an erotic novel and should be seen as such. At best it should be dealt with in the same manner as Gor but I do think it should be cut, despite how much I enjoy reading it.
