Which is why TGS is better IMO. It allows people to actually try the games being made.

Really? Out of all the game conventions the one you pick is Tokyo Game Show? Because you can play the games there? You can kinda do that at every convention, depending on the game.

Except other conventions allow ALL the games to be playable and not just certain games, either.

It's not really about the convention it's about whether the developer wants there to be an open demo or not. Games like Halo 4 that get announced at big events like E3 don't have demos but they're usually in alpha.

...Not every game is in playable condition at the time it's announced.

Miyamoto is the person who asked them to do Metroid in the first place, actually. It was originally just an FPS engine for a different project, and he offered Metroid to them.

And yes, I would gladly accept another Punch-Out!!.

I'd say Next Level Games did a good job with the Wii game, maybe let them have another go at it after Luigis Mansion 2 is finished?

Since '07.

'09 raised the attendance levels a crapton but still didn't allow the general public to attend.

Ah. Right. The format was different in '07 and '08 due to rising costs or something, right? It's only since '09 that it's properly been an expo again.

Rising costs for the publishers, yes.

They cut out all of the bloggers and the non-official gaming people from '07 and '08 to make a more intimate sort of "business summit", IIRC.

And then people outraged about it and the E3 people probably realized that format wasn't going to work.

Personally, I'm fine with not being able to go. It's not like I would make a trip to California just for a video game conference anyway. And watching the summits online is just as good, in my opinion.

Well, I presume there's something about being there that makes the trip worthwhile. Ambience, congregating with everyone, the possible chance of running into someone famous in the industry.

I was originally going to go to SDCC for those reasons, but you know...money. Time. Don't have a lot of either ATM.

It would still be irrelevant to me, as a university student in Canada. It's just not worth the few thousand dollars it would take to get there, find living arrangements with hotels in high demand, actually get access to the show, and get back.

Well, yes. Nowadays, people can just watch the streams and it makes it seem like they're there.

But going back even ten years ago people didn't have that option. You either heard about it through news websites/word of mouth or you were lucky enough to attend and heard it for yourself.

...But we're not talking about then, we're talking about now.

Never mind. I'm not making the point that I'm trying to make.

There will be no new announcements from Valve at E3 this year.
