Oh, thank you. I have been told I have a way with summarizing. Once I summarized something my bishop said about how the Man of the House acts as a bridge between the family and God and he chuckled because I said it in a much better way than he did (in his opinion).

It was an honor@Calamity Jane: If I may ask, what was the Mormon Church's moral justification for leading the fight to pass Prop 8 in California four years ago? And moreover, was the victory worth it?
What we obtain too cheap, we esteem too lightly.There are two reasons that I can come up with on the spot with no prior knowledge of any official statement by the church;
- According to scripture, the world had grown wicked twice and only the few righteous remained after the resultant bloodshed, and the Mormons advocating Prop 8 in California wished for more people to be righteous by stopping them from doing wicked acts.
- It was part of a further attempt to remove the word 'marriage' from the legal papers and make all legal benefits of marriage be under the name 'civil union' instead to leave marriage as a purely religious concept.
As for whether it was worth it, for the first option no it was not, but for the second option then it was a step, but it's still not all the way there.

Please consider supporting my artwork on PatreonI am too lazy to go through all of this, so I demand someone to summarise me the conclusions.
There is some disagreement on these issues.
@ Peryton,
The general tone of this thread is "why religion decides that homosexuality is bad and all that implies". There's variations depending on which page you click.
Please consider supporting my artwork on Patreon"Religion" is code for "Western Christianity," incidentally.
The thread seesaws between arguing about Biblical interpretation and general anti-Christian sentiments.
There are no conclusions.
Except for 4/1/2011. That day lingers in my memory like...metaphor here...I should go.I have an idea. Just a crazy idea. How about you guys talk about other religions besides Western Christianity and how homosexuality is treated by it.
This is a robbery. Give me all of your money and I'll kill you.We do so, on occasion. Discussion on them usually last about a page, then are followed by pages upon pages of discussions about Christianity.
I think it would last longer if there were non-Christian tropers from an anti-homosexual religion around to continue those discussions.
"I don't know how I do it. I'm like the Mr. Bean of sex." -DrunkscriblerianIndeed it would. Unfortunately, they don't really post here.
Aeondeug would occasionally wander in and ramble about what Buddhism thinks of homosexuality, but she doesn't seem to be around anymore...
Yep. We've had huge Buddhist talks when a Buddhist troper pops in, but by and large we can't talk about first hand experience with other religions at least in ways that are interesting to debate.
My faith doesn't care about homosexuality, or even goats marrying toasters, but has very strong opinions on hot dog buns. Which is interesting to me, but it doesn't really make for a long tangent on which we can speak with a lot of authority.
It's much more interesting to compare and contrast our own personal experiences and things we can speak with some knowledge on. For most people in this thread the only religion they can do that with is Christianity.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickIslam is the only religion that is most controversial about homosexuality. But muslims usually don't have much power on western attitudes towards homosexuality, unlike christians.
Most less mainstream religions seem okay with it. Occasionally you get the insane neo-nazi asatru or satanist that is homophobic, but they are considered deranged by other pagans and satanists.
Considering half the stories about Odin... let alone Loki and Thor... <falls over sideways>
How can you stay homophobic as an reconstructed Astratu?
Oh... and I haven't even got to the whole deal of the cunning folk, at all.
Theme park versions of norse mythology are all about manliness, and according to our heteronormative christian society, manliness = hate da gays.
In reality, the norse were like the greeks. You could fuck anything, so long as you were on top. Freyr was appearently welcoming to more submissive gay men.
I have no idea. None of the Asatru I know are at all homophobic.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickAnd, again, those who are are instantly ridiculed by everyone else. Just like the racist asatrus.
Same with satanists. You have machist teens, and you have the sane majority who embrace freedom as Satan represents. And then there's the ones who take it to the extreme...
Well, there's always Rastafarianism. And what does Judaism think about teh Gayz.
Depends on if you're Reformed or Orthodox, and which particular strain of Reformed or Orthodox at that. Most Reformed Jews don't care. Most Orthodox don't care if you aren't Orthodox yourself. Gay Orthodox Jews are frowned upon.

You know, for a weirdo Mormon you actually sum up what I've been saying since page 40 of this thread.
