[up][up] Homophobia? What?

@Euodiachloris basically said that making generalizations for a large group of people is bad.

And @Laywerdude had said, As far as Popes, Bishops, Preachers, Ministers or whatever are concerned, your sole value to them is your money and the power that your support gives them.

[up][up][up] He may not have said that but he's said plenty of similarly bigoted things:

Church leaders don't care about people. As far as Popes, Bishops, Preachers, Ministers or whatever are concerned, your sole value to them is your money and the power that your support gives them.

Consider why even liberal churches don't want to take a stand against homophobia: they're afraid people will leave. Unity and money are more important than the fact that children are being bullied to death, so they do nothing to stop it.

Bigots and hatemongers easily rally people to their causes. Falwell's church had around 25, 000 members and he died a multimillionaire. Other churches are fine to have gay members pouring money into the coffers, but otherwise treat them like second-class members.

Plenty of churches are willing to accept homosexual people as members and take their money, as long as they suppress their natural inclinations, don't try to change things, and don't seek any position of authority in the church.

Although as an atheist, perhaps I should be glad that the asshole churches are driving people off, while the potentially good-doing churches are too cowardly to take a stand. The more people who give up on religion the better, I say.

I would say that Falwell and Phelps and other like them do represent the mainstream.

Now let me say, I get where Lawyerdude is coming from. He clearly has a strong streak of right and wrong, and he's fed up with the fundamentalist bullshit. I know the feeling.

He's not saying this because he's a frothing lunatic, just a good man that's fed up. But then that's why we have to work even harder to make sure that good people have the full picture and aren't driven off by their own lack of knowledge.

We need the Lawyerdudes, L Mages, Morgikits, Boredmen, Euos, Starships, Taoists, Deviants, Drunks, and every-fucking-body if we're gonna make this happen.

It was an honor

Clearly he's not a big fan of Christianity. A lot of people aren't right now.

There it is again: "Christianity" when you could mean "bigoted, fundamentalist asshole" or "wishy-washy, happy-clappy, hippy wannabe", neither of which settings are particularly helpful. Nor are they the same.

Call them by the other labels that fit them, as well, to narrow the target of your ire. tongue

I'd like to believe no one is a fan of bigoted asshole Christianity. But where I'm from it seems to be pretty damn popular.

[up][up]Cool. I wish more British Football and Rugby players would come out the closet either during or after their careers like that. Most would hit a wider audience than any given Church leader. <sighs>

Heck... cricketers, too.

That guy looks familiar for some reason.

Honestly he sounds like a pretty cool and intelligent dude from what the article says. Too bad he'll be ignored because he's a dumb jock.
