Crowdsourced Gaming Project Megathread (Kickstarter, IndieGoGo, etc.)

The recent flood of high profile (and high pledge target) Kickstarter gaming projects in the wake of Double Fine Adventure has prompted me to start a thread where we can discuss any and all interesting projects. If you want, you can spin off individual projects to individual threads but please use your best judgement to decide whether or not that's necessary.

We'll start with a project that arguably DOES in fact deserve its own thread: Leisure Suit Larry HD. The original team has teamed up with Replay Games and is asking for 500k to remake the original game, with plans of doing the entire series.

Shadowrun

The Dead Linger

Vigrior

Class of heroes for PSP localization

Fist puncher

Tempus Chronicle

Sure. I have to step out in a moment so if you find any links, PM me them and I'll add them to the OP.

^I made thread named "ANOTHER old game on kickstarter", THEN I realized nobody will check it unless I put Shadowrun in the name so I now wait mod to change thread title tongue

Anyhoo, so does Shadowrun has bigger fandom than Leisure Suit Larry or is it because it is a remake?

General thread for Kickstarter projects because there are so many of them?

You know, I really don't understand why people are even contributing. What sort of mindset do people take when they pay for something still in development?

@Burnspy: Why do people give money to charity? Or invest to artistic causes if they don't get any money from it? Why would anybody invest art, film, tabletop games, dances, sodas or anything at all at kickstarter?

Without myself answering to questions I just asked, I still answer your questions :P 1) Pre order at cheaper price which goes directly to developers and possible helps to make game better 2) People have been wanting new game on old series that publishers don't count viable or to old genre they love 3) People have demand that mainstream publishers won't answer to 4) People want to help developers they love/support cause. 5) They feel funding a game different from buying a game.

If you want to assume "People are jerks" then reasons could be 1) To make themselves feel better 2) To justify feeling entitled

But those don't really work tongue Its kinda more like fanboyism at times. Hence the funding vs buying thing I mentioned before, if people buy over priced games, they feel ripped off, but if its funding then they can give very huge amounts of money to series they love tongue

But yeah, one reason is that it makes them feel like that more they give, better the game they want will be. If they buy finished game then there is no guarantee that money will be spent on making more games.

But yeah, at most basic thing, kickstarter is investing. People are investing in something they want.

Yes. Sure they say they're from Blizzard, Sony, and Microsoft, but they don't even say what specific projects they've had experience with and in what capacity.

Hmm, ok.

I find Bionite and Starlight Inception interesting too, former more because it actually has footage.

Americana Dawn is a completed project that I linked to a while back. It's a jRPG set against the backdrop of the American Revolution.

You can tell that the people behind Tortured Hearts put a lot of effort into it, so it's kind of depressing to see it not get any money. sad

Also. have a Ender's Game-esque project.
