I haven't either.

One strategy I'm wondering about the effectiveness of would be to just buy a whole bunch of missiles (save them up if possible) and just spamming a pair of Pegasus missile launchers and a pair of Artemis missile launchers. Sure, the defense drone would get one or maybe two of them, but the others would probably get through, and FTL doesn't seem to give me very many Burst Laser Mk. IIs, but I've gotten quite lucky with the missile launchers..

For the second stage, if you don't have bombs (they ignore defense drones, which I didn't realize for quite a while, so maybe you haven't either) or a crystal crewmember, I've found two rockmen teleporting into the drone bay followed by two mantis beaming into the engine room and running frantically between there and the cockpit can usually get the enemy defense drone offline eventually.

As they run through engines, teleporter, shields, cockpit, and the passage the enemy crew takes to and from the med bay, they tend to eventually attract everyone, while taking little damage since they're in and out of a compartment before anyone can fire. The AI seems to consider the drone bay low priority.

How can you do that with the locked doors?

Second stage. The door subsystem gets blown off with the ion cannon and cloak after the first.

got to the final boss again with nearly fully upgraded shields and engine, a maxed out cloak, and 60+ missiles (managed to get ballistaphobia out of it too)

only problem, was my only missile was an Ion Bomb, and my only other weapons were two of the starting lasers, and a Burst Laser II

not even CLOSE to enough damage...

(Temporarily) replaced my breach missiles and pegasus missiles with a heavy lazer mk ii to save ammo. It's more effective than I thought it would be. Basic strategy is as follows: ion cannon shields to 1 bar (add a burst lazer pulse if necessary), shred shield generator with heavy laser, knock out weapons with the burst laser if I didn't need it to break down the shields, then shred as many rooms as I can with my pike beam.

Are fire bombs any good?

Also, I do wish that I could buy or find dual lasers, seeing as they're basically burst laser 1s but better (lower energy, faster firing). Then it would be easier to use the hull lasers.

[up][up] That should be enough if you keep the shields down with the ion bomb, then shoot everything else with the lasers. Also, I wouldn't necessarily upgrade the cloak, level 1 is enough to dodge most stuff with the right timing, more tends to either hinder your firing or is made useless if you fire anyway.

[up] I haven't ever found dual lasers anywhere apart from starting weapons. Maybe you can't find them.

They only exist as starting weapons. Probably because they are better than burst laser 1s with no drawback.

no, it wasn't even close to enough damage to take down the shields.

[up] That's odd, normally one shot of my ion bomb takes out 2 shield bubbles. Then I usually also hit the shields for additional normal damage though.

If you have an ion bomb, you can disable the med bay and start killing their crew with boarding parties. Once they're down to one or two, have your boarding party disable the shields, then fire away.

As I was asking, are fire bombs any good? I was thinking that they'd be great for knocking out the weapon rooms and such on the Final Boss.

They're great if you have rock crew to jump in afterward. Enemies can't put out fires while they're fighting, they take damage even faster, and you still get to deal damage to that subsystem even though your troops are in combat.

Otherwise they're usually extinguished too quickly.

the trick to the boss is to teleport some people into the missile launcher ASAP and take it out. After that, ion spam.

I was more thinking that it might be useful for knocking out the weapons and weapon crew on the Rebel Flagship. I can't do much for boarding though. I'm in a Zoltan Cruiser and have really nothing of note for boarding, just a few humans and a rockman, none of whom have any training in ship-side combat.

Tried the nesario

First combat: instantly lose cloaking to a lucky shot, lights the system on fire, and proceeds to burn the entire crew to death

fuck you.

[up][up] One human and one rockman is all it takes really. Get into a fight where the opponent can't hurt you, teleport them in a 1*2 room and beat the crap out of them until you need to retreat. Rinse and repeat.

[up] Happens. You need to take out the weapons fast and be good with dodging shoots with the cloak.

Oh man. Got a crystal crewmember AND the Rock Homeworlds before sector 7. This could be it.

Hope I can find the portal though...

-fingers crossed-

Also, yeah, I hate when I get hit through the cloak. Pretty sure it happened when I was at 90% evade once.

YES!! CRYSTAL SECTOR REACHED!!

Cruiser acquired. Only had one fight on the way, during which I rescued a prisoner. With two crystal beings the final battle should be a cakewalk.

I know previously I hit the Rock Homeworlds in sector 7 a couple of times and couldn't continue the Bulwark quest because the Last Stand was next. Maybe the portal doesn't show up for that reason?

Although I'm not sure, since I got Rock Homeworlds in 6, went to the Crystal Sector, and returned to 7 (Pirate Sector), not 8 like I was expecting.

YES! I finally beat the rebel flagship. I had to save up every last missile I could find to do it, but I did it (used the Zoltan Cruiser, type A).

First phase: missiles to rapidly knock out the burst missile launcher, and then I gradually wore down all the rest of the crew, save the beam weapon guy with my fire bombs and breach bombs mk II and then just let the fire damage finish the deed.

Second phase: This was definitely the hard part due to my complete lack of any means of boarding the Flagship, so instead, I dropped a full alpha strike on the drone room (breech bomb, fire bomb, and pegasus missiles) and repeated this as soon as I could, knocking out the drone room just before the first power surge, keeping it from bumfucking me with drones, though after that, straight forward missile spam did the job admirably.

Third phase: Time consuming, but easier. Missile spam + BURN EVERYTHING. Most annoying part was that RECHARGING ZOLTAN SHIELD.

I think it took 70 missiles or so, but it did work.

I felt all Targaryen and it was awesome.
