[up] If they have monsters like Gleam Eyes or that metal skeleton thing then a lot.

Ya know chances are, a lot of shit might be changed. I mean if they ever do the ALO arc they prolly won't have whatever Asuna's gonna be molested.

I expect minimal. Monsters will probably always be just off screen so they don't have to be shown except for maybe one boss fight that they blow most of the budget on, and the Sword Skills will be absent completely, so no glowey effects or superhuman swordsmanship. The menus will probably also be absent.

In all likelihood, I'm expecting "Hollywood Nerds transplanted into a PG-Rated Game of Thrones". Any references to game mechanics are likely to be absent, playing it more like a typical "trapped in a fantasy world" story, with VR as a justification.

Kirito in all likelyhood being a total rookie is something I'm not looking forward to. I kinda liked having a Power Fantasy character for a change that wasn't "raaargh kill everything!". After suffering through Voltron Legendary Defender and its incompetent roster, I just want my pretty sword fights.

Between bigger budgets and cheaper CGI, television has managed some pretty impressive effects in recent years. I'm sure they'll keep from overusing the monsters, but they'll definitely be able to do menus and stuff without any trouble. Plus, since it's all inside a game, they have a natural justification if the monsters don't really look that great.

Another vote for "cautiously optimistic." There's a lot of interesting stuff in SAO, especially in the first game. Incorporating stuff from Progressive and showing more of the game world could be good. If nothing else, we probably won't get the stupid incest storyline. America is much less appreciative of that sort of thing.

Honestly, Nobuhiko Suguo is the worst aspect of Fairy Dance in my opinion. The stuff with Suguha is not Fairy Dance's worst aspects.

Actually yeah this might work. I mean some defenders I read gave some valid points in that the trap in deadly game world is actually very interesting. I mean that's why SAO became famous in the first place. The critiscm & fall from grace came when the harem aspects were introduced & the series became Kirito saving the girl of the week. Have a more interesting cast & we might have a good show.

The "harem" aspect is really heavily exagerated and mostly confined to the first half of season one, surprisingly. I mean, the characters are present in season 2, but never felt to me like an actual harem anime, which is ironically also the only time they do any adventuring together.

Still can't say I'm looking forward to this. At its worst, SAO is dumb and pretty. Nothing about the show is something I've really seen handled well in live action on a TV budget, so even if by some small miracle the story is any good, I have a nasty suspicion it'll still be below other, better shows, while losing anything I like about SAO itself in the process.

Yeah, its quite possible it wouldn't have the elements that love SAO for but it could still work out.

And hey SAO is treated much better than Accel World. I love both but Sunrise does not treat AW well.

[up] Eh, the AW adaptation is considerably better than the SAO adaptation.

I certainly agree but Sunrise does not treat the series well. I'm probably going to see Infinite Burst but from what I've heard most of it was a recap and Sunrise didn't bother to announce that. And it doesn't get nearly the sales SAO does. SAO pretter much always sells better than its younger siblings The Isolator and AW.

I love SAO but its little siblings series deserve their chance in the spotlight.

I wonder if any characters will end up on the cutting room floor in the live action version. Last I checked, Silica regularly does jack all even in the anime, why bother paying an actress for her?

Silica did pull her weight in caliber, but she does not do much in Aincrad though I imagine she had adventures with her dragon and just avoided the high floors.

[up][up]I imagine this will be rewritten on such a grand scale that even the idea of the characters directly corresponding to specific characters from the anime would be a stretch. The basic premise and plot outline should be enough for a TV show. Obviously major roles like "love interest" and "villain" can be kept stable.

Honestly I'm looking forward to this. Perhaps because I'm not the biggest fan of this series.

OR make it an AU where Kirito saves the Black Cats of the Full Moon, but the result is actually darker than the main series. Silica dies because Kirito wasn't there to save her. Asuna is murdered by Kuradeel after she rejects him. Kayaba betrays the players on the 95th floor, as planned. The death game lasts an extra year.

[up] I would actually like that except for the part where Silica dies, she and Liz should join the Black Cats as well to even out the team's gender ratio

inb4 the SAO equivalent of DragonballEvolution.

That tells you exactly how much hope I have for this adaptation.

Yeah... I guess. How many other "trapped in a video game" animes were there really? Heck, even now: re-Zero, Log Horizon, Overlord.

Overlord isn't a "trapped in a video game" anime.

I stand corrected on the issue of Yuuki's funeral. The book's exact words were "memorial service," and the Catholic Church does permit the solemn celebration of the funeral without Communion (or possibly with pre-sanctified) during the Triduum. This makes Yuuki's funeral being on Holy Saturday unusual (since her family didn't know she had friends who would attend her funeral, one would expect that they would have had her funeral on Wednesday, so they could have a Mass), but not irregular.

Thinking about it, I'd have to say the most impressive thing about Kayaba's genius is Yui. Kayaba managed to create an AI capable of passing the Turing Test BY ACCIDENT. How detailed must the Cardinal System's programming have been to be capable of such a thing?
