No, what I'm saying is that both apparently have this long history where they know the intricacies of their past and current intentions but there is nothing on screen that explains why. Shredder and Splinter act as though they have the classic rivalry and there is a lot of talk about how they are connected, but the most Splinter could possibly know about Shredder and The Foot is any conversations between Sachs and Shredder actually in the lab.
I bring it up mostly because even though a rat mimicking the movements of his master was kind of silly, it did build a sense lineage and passing on a legacy in some way. Same thing with the rivalry, Splinter's injured ear added a sense of history between these specific characters rather than giving it lip service but nothing in practice.
Regardless, I do think the movie did well enough with establishing the franchise that a sequel has a chance to really knock it out of the park.
Provided this one actually succeeds, at least, which could be questionable given the tepid response the movie's been getting even from moviegoers.
I will agree, though, that should the movie earn itself a sequel, that this one does do a very good job of establishing the characters and putting things in place where they could do a lot of good things with a sequel.
Especially if they dig up additional pieces from the 80's series to rework and make use of.
I prefer the more ninja-like trappings and aesthetic that the other incarnations had for Shredder and the Foot, rather than the modern military deal. Without these things (and the Hamato Yoshi/Splinter/Shredder backstory, I think this film just comes of as a generic action movie that happens to include the Turtles.
Swordplay and writing blog. Purveyor of weeaboo fightin' magic. From the looks of things, the movie's already brought in close to 100 mil (about 93~ mil to be specific) on a 125 mil budget, so I think it's safe to say at this point that unless the movie absolutely plummets in the next few weeks and/or it picks up terrible word of mouth (compared to the currently mixed word of mouth), odds are probably safer than not that we'll be getting a sequel at some point in the relatively near future.

I think I was just , but I'm not quite sure.
Don'cha mean, ninja-turtle'd? : V
That remains to be seen, depending on whether or not said sequel is good or not.
Man, remember the days when people expected blockbusters to stand on their own, and assumed that the sequel just wouldn't be as good? My, how times have changed.
I thought it was pretty good. Then again, I'm a fan of the series.
I thought the movie was okay. I won't lie though, I wasn't a fan of April being the Spotlight-Stealing Squad.
Hey, the original movie focused a lot more on Casey and April than it did the Turtles besides Raph, so this is nothing new.
Of course, don't you know anything about ALCHEMY?!- Twin clones of Ivan the GreatHeh.
Congratulations Michael Bay. You finally made a movie that people might actually like.
Now enjoy being hated by every fan everywhere anyway, as they insist that the movie is good in spite of you, and that everything bad about it is your fault.
Cause that's what you get for making Revenge Of The Fallen. That's. What. You. Get.

One Strip! One Strip! The Internet is a place for people to whine and exaggerate. If you listened to the Internet, David Cage would be some sort of unholy spawn of Satan sodomizing Hitler.
i just saw the movie and thought it was decent. Did I prefer it to the original? No. But this movie isn't meant for me and it's not meant for the people bitching about it. We are old fogies and we don't matter. This TMNT is meant for a new generation of fans; to bring a new generation of kids into the franchise we all grew up with.
To that end, I applaud it. I have no illusions my love for the 1990 film is due to me growing up with it. And, in 25 years, I bet my life on the fact all the kids who just saw and loved this movie will be bitching about the next reboot they do.
It's like the people elsewhere calling Mikey "a wigger." Mikey has always been a pop culture spokesman. He just speaks for a different pop culture that we are not a part of and thus naturally hate. But give us the old Mikey who was "hip with our lingo" back in the day and we love him.
I'm just glad the franchise that I loved as a kid can be continued on and bring delight to more kids. If I ever have children, I'd be happy to show them this.
Like a lot of people I think Raphael and Michelangelo were the best characterized of the Turtles. However they are also the easiest to characterize and probably the two with the most fan appeal. They are the most outspoken of the brothers typically. I hope that the sequel gives a bit more screentime for Leonardo and Donatello. They might be a bit more subtle but they're still good characters.

In the original film, there was enough screentime actual devoted to the dynamics between the turtles, and when the climax came the focus was on the turtles.
Though speaking of Casey, I get the feeling the sequel will be about the Turtles playing sidekick to Casey Jones.
Saw the movie. Was passable. Liked the turtle looks and interactions, but they could have used more development. April was actually the most interesting character. Really wish they had done more with the shared history between her and the turtles. Villains under utilized. Splinter continues to be the epitome of old man awesome.
I just saw it today and enjoyed it a lot; though it was flawed, I thought it had a sense of fun and did a good job with the Turtles' characters.
Then again, I'm a TMNT fanboy; so, you should probably take my opinions with a grain of salt.
Just saw Doug Walker's critique of the movie. While probably laying far too much blame on Michael Bay he does a fair assessment of the movie, while not considering it very good anyway. Most of his analysis of the actual movie I agree with, he praises the snowy cliff action scene and the elevator scene as being exciting, entertaining and exactly what a Turtles movie should be about. He criticizes the more detached and perfunctory character interactions, where the movie didn't sell the growing bond between April and the turtles as it should have.
It's a flawed movie, but I was entertained all the way through.
I just saw it last night and this
summarizes my feelings on the movie. It's got some logic problems with the plot and one grievous departure from the source material, but aside from that, it's a really good Ninja Turtles movie. If you loved the Ninja Turtles growing up or even now, you will love this movie; the characters are portrayed well and the action scenes are fantastic.
Conversely, if you didn't like the Ninja Turtles, this probably won't change your mind.

My Tumblr. Currently liveblogging Haruhi Suzumiya and revisiting Danganronpa V3.Better than I thought it would be, though my expectations were low. I don't like the Turtles' character designs, but I like their interactions, as well as Splinter's.
April O Neal was a Mary Sue in this film. Too much gravity and focus on her.
Villains were bland. Bland as shit.
ALL CREATURE WILL DIE AND ALL THE THINGS WILL BE BROKEN. THAT'S THE LAW OF SAMURAI.I thought the designs were great, and agree that they were the best part. The film was full of Megan Fox shilling, so that was stupid. Though, it was obvious that she was at least trying to act. And the realization that she knew the Turtles when she was a kid was poorly written, so no matter the actress it would have been stupid. Also, I thought Will Arnet's character was pointless to the plot, overall, he did do a good job as his character.
Never have I been more pissed off after leaving a film. Last time I was this annoyed by how much I hated a flick was Paranormal Activity. This one ranks up there with that one. CGI is lol shit and Megan Fox lol. Like the beginning highlights she's a sex appeal person only. I thought my friends who I went to see the film would be neanderthal-icky obnoxiously enjoy it. When I saw them today they said they were likewise bored shitless.
"I don't give a rat's ass about going to hell. I guess it's because I feel like I'm already there." -MugenI liked how the turtles were changed from being sewer mutants to April's laboratory pets... Although at first I was a little off-put by April's Adaptation Dye-Job, but seeing as she's a modern reporter in NY, I guess they had to tone down her hair colour for the new audiences. I liked the end showdown of the movie and the appearance Shredder terrified me because of those projectile daggers that he had embedded into his iron armour. I give it a 6/10.
In an anime, I'll be the Tsundere Dark Magical Girl who likes purple MY own profile is actually HERE!
Those two are pretty easy. The rivalry with the Shredder is because the Turtles were thwarting Shredder's plans and they were the keystone to them at the same time.
The Foot's purpose is the same as many of the other franchises, to act as grunts for the Shredder.
I will give you the plan is incredibly cliche and really needed some explanation.
