Does anyone know how to safely and reliably patch the game without using EA's tools (which I think have been shoved into Origin now)? I reinstalled a while ago. I *think* I might have gotten it patched but I don't remember (I can't figure out where to check) and I had trouble finding directions that were both consistent and current.
Wait, doesn't the game autopatch on startup? My copy does...

With the power of a dragon I can make up for my inability to spill.Everybody wants that, dear. It doesn't exist.
But seriously, on the off chance that Spore 2 (or at least another Spore expansion pack/DLC/whatever they call 'em these days) gets made, they better damn well have aquatic (and maybe aerial and subterranean) creatures.

With the power of a dragon I can make up for my inability to spill.I have a laundry list of things I'd want in a Spore 2. Not that I don't like Spore 1, but there are so many tantalizing ways it could be improved.
"The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense." - Tom Clancy, paraphrasing Mark Twain.Me two.
With the power of a dragon I can make up for my inability to spill.Opinions on Spore seemed mixed, so I pirated it first to see what it was like... And I loved it. I just bought it on Steam, it's installing now.
There was also the fact that all the names in the game (names of planets, cities, tribe members, etc.) would default to "BAD_DATA" and it made telling tribe members and cities apart difficult. I was at the Civilization stage when it became a real problem, so I'm going to start over on my legit copy of the game.
Carnivore or Herbivore? My "Badatans" (hey, I ran with the "bad data" thing) were predatory, carnivorous, industrious, militaristic... Basically every "bad" stereotype the game has to offer, but I really wanted them to be peaceful. It's kind of hard, though, at least in the Tribal stage. I had to destroy every other tribe to survive. : When I start the game over, I'll do Herbivore.

You need an adult.Being peaceful isn't so hard in any mode, with any of the things you choose (you might get told that you can't be peaceful if you choose a carnivore, but that's not really true). And it's interesting mixing the peaceful or neutral aspects with the aggressive aspects and seeing what you get.

That is the face of a man who just ate a kitten. Raw.Question: Is there an ideal setup for a creature's legs? A "best" way to position the joints? In test mode in the creator, I can never seem to get above a somewhat quick waddle. I was wondering if it was possible to design a creature with the perfect configuration of legs, that would be able to sprint or gallop.
It was the above train of thought that led me to take the legs off my creature and give it two pairs of wings instead.
You need an adult.I would just do two legs.
Hooray for bipeds XD
That is the face of a man who just ate a kitten. Raw.That feel when you dig deep into the thread listing of a subforum and haul a thread back from the edge of oblivion.
Once it reaches Page 2, THERE IS NO RETURN.
My latest creation: BIFFIDS. Like Triffids, but with two legs... Thus, Biffid. Pics to come.
You need an adult.^^^ I think it depends. Often, if you have the joints positioned too horizontally you will get that waddle, and you can sometimes get very interesting kinds of walks by positioning joints atypically.
Your creature will often default to certain kinds of walks with certain leg positions, though.
"The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense." - Tom Clancy, paraphrasing Mark Twain.Ah, Spore.
My "first" Empire consisted of blue bird people, so that was pretty neat.
On the other hand, I'm perpetually poor and no amount of spice selling is helping me. So frustrating, especially since two guys I'm allied with keep attacking each other.
Locking you up on radar since '09Huh, I didn't know we had a thread for this.
Here's my sporepedia page. Ignore the name.. I was going through something of an... um... "edgy" phase when I registered for Sporepedia.
It's a little disappointing how quickly EA abandoned Spore; I remember when it was coming out there were really ambitious plans for a Sims style multi-expansion pack franchise, but I guess it never panned out becasue of the whole DRM mess and critical backlash.
I find "2" funniest part of your account name since it means someone had taken 1.
Really, I find most of number after name user names funny since I don't know if number is reference to something it feels like they are [x] number person with that name.
BIFFID!
I think he's cute. :3 And yes... He can fly. See those teeny tiny wings on his body?
You need an adult.I thought those were like...neck growths O.o
That is the face of a man who just ate a kitten. Raw.I put them there for fun. The Biffid was never meant to fly, but you don't make a creature in Spore that can't fly. Funny as hell to see him flapping around the map with those tiny little things.
I couldn't give him three legs—the legs wouldn't "snap" together like usual in build mode.
An earlier form of the Biffid was even crazier looking... I put the Cilia on its head, oriented them horizontally and made them as large as I possibly could. The result was like an umbrella or shelf on its face. And its wings were on its tail.
Man, I am loving this game, but there are definitely things I would add. A wider variety of creature types—like the ability to make fungus, plant, etc. creatures. And FUR. We need fur. All the skins in the game are shiny and leathery.

You need an adult.Since this thread reminded me of Spore and the fact that I still have it on my HD, I decided to fool around with the creature designer a bit.
Well, this is the result.◊ I called it "Mironka", derived from "mirror", because... I'm not sure myself where front and back is with that thing. I think it's my best creation so far, though. It's certainly the most... creative one. When I have proper internet, I may actually register and upload it.
People aren't as awful as the internet makes them out to be.There were expansion packs that added other sorts of parts. Some were creepy crawly, I think there was a robotic one. Then there's Spore Adventures, which adds to Space Age.
Anyone here allied with the Grox or set off a planet buster before? I haven't, but I'm wondering how bad bad can be. I won't try it until I have an Uberturret on every one of my worlds.
I allied with the Grox once.
I pretty much just moved my manufacturing base next to the Galactic Core and let the hordes of PO'd aliens attack my home planet. It's not as fun as it seems; you can't really leave the Grox empire's zone of influence without getting blown to smithereens, and you can only trade with the Grox, which limits your economical options.
Well, pretty much all the stuff that it does for creature stage applies in adventures, such as higher jumping, lightning-augmented abilities and (I think) allowing you to pick up other creatures like objects. Plus, the same ability changes that affect your character likewise affect all other creatures, in creature stage or in adventures, so it kind of balances out the whole cheat mod, I guess. Imagine an adventure where you're supposed to fight a horde of otherwise weak creatures that have level 4 or 5 charge or level 5 spit. At best, it takes forever because the creatures are all bound to charge or spit at you at least once, and at worst... Well, hope you don't mind reloading often.
Also, I really don't understand what you mean by that last bit. Why would the game download mods (unless you mean the bug-fix-update things)?
