We have a thread for Darkspore, but not it's derivative? Well, looks like I have to make a thread for another overlooked game. Again.

Haven't played Spore in a long time, neither the original or spinoffs. Been caught up with other games, like Minecraft and Descent 3.

I think I'd be inclined to play it more if I could get more Adventures, but since I'm not allowed to access any sort of online content whatsoever, I know that that's probably not going to happen.

Okay, fine! I'm going to do something I'm sort of good at!

Well, we have this, about my problems running the game that I had a year or so ago, but you're right: it's odd that we don't have a Spore thread.

I still can't play it, btw. Even after wiping my hard drive. :(

Ah spore. I remember that game. Loved the creature creator to death. The gameplay was a disappointment.

I know that I had some problems in the past, but once they were fixed, I don't think I had anything else after that. I don't remember about them, really, but I'm certain that I might have had 'em.

Why did I read that last line in Wheatley's voice?

The only issue that really bugged me was that when sometime after I installed either Galactic Adventures or some other thing, I lost all of my worlds and had to start over from scratch.

[up] Ah GA. I spent so much time trying to find work arounds to the many many LOS and collision detection problems.

Never really worked.

I had fun in the space stage, for what it's worth. Never did figure out if I could move my "home planet" status somewhere else, making colonization further out a bit of a hassle.

Homeworld is the planet you started on and it is fixed there unless if it has been conquered or otherwise destroyed.

Can you blow up your home planet in order to have a better one for the center of your no doubt Evil Empire?

Well, you can't make another colony with more than 3 cities, so I'd advise against that.

If you want another homeworld, get one from someone else.

My first race were the Azarel. They were like John Ringo's Posleen, only green.

I wish space stage had allowed your nation to really be a nation, rather than a farm for your questing.

I remember in my first game, I ended up having like EVERY FUCKING RACE AROUND ME HATING ME.

I was literally surrounded by red.

Same. Finally figured out that bribery and trade was the way to many a race's heart. Managed to get five races nearby up to level five. They had a tendency to make war on each other though, so I eventually had to eat up the least likeable race and begin anew with another race nearby that I ascended, specifically to buy them out for their purple spice. Having a homeworld producing purple spice within one jump's distance form your homeworld greatly reduces monetary issues.

Shame I couldn't blow up planets without everyone deciding I was evil. If they hadn't been so goody-goody there might be more planets and less genocide in that universe.

I really liked how if you had more than one save file, you could actually find your other save file's planet.

I remember kidnapping a bunch of another file that was still in the creature stage.

I really liked spore, I think it was underrated. People were expecting each of the stages to be as complex and full as the genre they borrowed from but this was impossible, this is a case of the whole being better that a single part, it's very fun to me raising an entire species to a galactic empire and while GA was cool it makes me sad knowing that the game won't get any new expansion pack or anything in the future save a possible spore 2, I think it'd be cool if they used expansions to better the game so we would have lots of content to really make our creatures and civilizations more unique that appearance, hopefully there will be Spore 2.

Ah, spore. A good game. Never understood why people hate it so much, I guess its because it was overhyped or something from that old trailer, it looked like another game, its true, but what we got its good too...

I guess the fact than I didnt knew about said trailer when I played spore might be why it didnt dissapointed me?

I liked Spore.

The only thing I didn't like was that it's possible to save at the wrong moment and fail stage 4 (the trading/technology stage). Up until then it was much harder to save at a time that would inevitably result in you needing to reload.

That, plus you never really get to go exploring because you always get called back because it's like you're the only protection from invaders your civilisation has.

Yes, I know there's the mobile turret but that isn't even 100% effective.

It would also have been nice if it let you beam down to a planet and explore it as though you were a creature again. But noooo. And even the expansion only let you beam down to pre-made places during quests. I'd rather have had the ability to explore a planet.

Speaking of exploration, I think I'd have to play as a generalist in any replays, because that home teleport ability is too useful.

The constant attacks are very annoying.

I think there should have been at least some way to buy some kind of expensive hyper turret that would guarantee planetary safety and that you only got it as one of the last tools(because by then, pirates and even grox are only annoying instead of any way challenging).

Especially since I loved exploring too, sometimes I'd just get into a wormhole and start a single colony and explore the new things like I only started the game.

Unfortunately it gets boring after a while since for all the customization spore has planets aren't that diverse, if there ever is a sequel there should be way more things that can be different or "created" like creatures(they had a plant editor, shame they removed it).

@Killer Bunny: There is one. It's called the Uber Turret. It's not really a turret, per se. It's a planetary defense drone with powerful weapons and a deflector shield. If you deploy one on a planet, you'll never have to worry about an invasion there ever again. However, they are very expensive and hard to come by.

@Sea Creatures: There was going to be a Sea Stage, but it was cut because it was too buggy and difficult to navigate. Pity, cause that would have been a great feature. I'd imagine it would kind of be like a Six Degrees of Freedom game, like Descent.

Yeah, I rememmber when it was coming out the designers were saying that the option to make aquatic creatures all the way up to the Civ stage was at one time on the books, but had to be cut out.

Herbivores and/or Omnivores are the best option for an Aggressive creature.

Carnivores may be combat oriented, but since they have to kill creatures for food, they have a finite limit for food supply.

Herbivores (or Omnivores), on the other hand, have an infinite food supply in the form of fruit, so they can massacre just every creature they meet without consequence.

sad

It always makes me sad when I do a virus scan, because then I get to watch Bit Defender scroll through tons of Spore files that apparently don't exist (as I can't find them even while looking for invisible or system files) but which are nonetheless preventing me from reinstalling the game.

Troubleshooting anything on a Mac is just pure frustration.

I'm thinking of just removing everything I care about from my Applications folder and then just deleting it, but I'm somewhat afraid of the repercussions.
