The current image is an image of someone wearing 80s fashion. But from the image quality, it looks fairly old. The trope is about someone who dresses in a fashion style out of date with the period they currently are in.

Trying to find something with Disco Stu, Spirou or The Venture Bros that shows they are in the modern day.

Alternatively Jughead with his traditional Jughead hat and an (Press enter on the URL) American Idol -referencing shirt. Could combine with a period appropriate drawing of the hat.

I like the Jughead idea. The American Idol image is pretty good. I was hoping we could do better, but a quick cover scan suggests that the costuming for Jughead generally has a pretty "timeless" look to it - couldn't find anything of him wearing, e.g., parachute pants, in the '80s.

I did find this one with a Miami Vice gag... but Jughead took off his hat for it!

I think Jughead is a winner here. He is the hat.

[up][up] I do like Marcia, but I'd prefer an image that makes it easier to see its the present? Most of the people barely are in the frame, and one has her back turned to us.

The Jughead American Idle / American Idol thing at least puts a semi-firm date: 2002 or later (As American Idol premiered in 2002). And the hat is dated from the later part of the 30s

I'm not sure that Jughead will make it clear to anyone - I had no idea that kind of hat was ever in style, myself. That may just be me, though.

It seems to me the movie Blast From The Past should have good examples, but I can't find a good screenshot. Darn it.

EDIT: Live action Scooby, maybe?

Waiting on a TRS slot? Finishing off one of these cleaning efforts will usually open one up.

[up][up] Any image will require some viewer knowledge to understand. Jughead is a very good example of the trope.

Here's a treasure trove of info on the Jughead hat, along with some repurposeable images [1]
