Zavi hugged his mum, and shook his dad's hand goodbye.
"I'll be fine!" Zavi reassured them, "Really, I would've thought you'd be used to it by now."
"But I was just getting used to you being home," his mother replied, a hair away from crying.
"You say that every year."
"I know, I know, but you've grown up so fast."
"And that, too. Mom. I. Will. Be. Fine." He gave her another hug. "Besides, I know you check on me regularly anyway. Have a safe trip, enjoy your little holiday and I'll see you in a few weeks."
With a last wave to his parents, Zavi grabbed his roller-case and started pulling it towards the apartment tower. Someone had to leave, or his parents never would.
Now. Should he go find his room, or catch up with people? No contest, his room would still be there (he'd be worried if it wasn't). Let's see, there was Brendan - chasing some Frosh. He'd catch up later. Who else was around? Over to side, he saw two he recognised. Ellisare - hardly a friend but they'd spoken once or twice, and a younger kid. Nate? He remembered answering a couple of questions about animal related runes for the kid.
He wandered over. Absentmindedly transforming his suitcase's wheels into skis when he started crossing the lawn.
"Hi. What's up?"
You must agree, my plan is sheer elegance in its simplicity! My Tumblr"Huh, sounds annoying. I had a cat like that once. She had a habit of picking on tabbies twice her size. And then she'd get lost and I'd forget which spell to use to call her and then I'd get lost looking for her-" He suddenly stopped, blushing slightly as he realised he'd been rambling. "Well, I hope he didn't cause too much trouble. Whatever it was." He was curious about the letter, but he didn't mind if she didn't want to talk about it.
As the squirrel climbed up his arm he noticed another kid walking over to them. "Hey, Zov- no, Zavi, hey!"
they/them || "Forgive me, regent of queer amphibians" - Lt.BGobHe was about to say something more on the subject and introduce himself when the call came in to report to the auditorium. He decided to get moving on over there, and maybe he would get to have some more fun confusing his little friend. Insofar, it seemed there were a lot of students on the move.
There was definitely a large amount of first years this year.
So he walked along to the auditorium, whistling a little tune.
"Wow! Look at how many people there are here!"
Alexander tugged Brendan along by pulling him through his sleeves, like a little kid would do with his Dad:
"Oh, I can't wait to get started and learn awesome new things! I can just see myself at the end of the year: a great mage, one of the best!"

She nodded at Zavi. "I'd best get to the apartment tower and unpack." With that, she walked away.
"Uh, bye," Zavi said to Ellisare. What'd I do?
"So... how was your summer?" Damn small talk.

Someone had summoned a demonic toad, and she gave a sigh of annoyance as she stepped over the horned creature. It made a croak that sounded like a failed attempt at maniacal laughter in response.

Brendan smiled. "Don't get carried away, my friend. I've been here for a few years and I still have a lot to learn. It takes patience."
"I guess you're right... But hey... You never know! Maybe something amazing happens to me, like... like... well, I haven't really thought about what could happen."
When Marcus heard the announcement, he was leaning against a wall studying the architecture of the area. He read the mind of some other student that seemed to have been here for quite a time to find out, where the auditorium is and quickly went there.
Samantha Taylor, also known as Sammy, was sat in the auditorial room, waiting patiently. She was ready to make some new friends, but everyone seemed to be ignoring her...
Taurin decided to get to the auditorium as he was meant to, and tried to remember what Virginia had told him about the layout of the place. From what he remembered it was fairly close. He took out his wand and drew a small rune. It grew and twisted into the shape of a bull, albeit the size of a small dog, entirely brown and with glowing eyes. He set out towards his destination, the small summon following him by his feet.
Huh, that was kind of sudden. Nate watched Elsinare leave for a second before answering Zavi's question. "Boring. Can't even remember most of it. You?"
they/them || "Forgive me, regent of queer amphibians" - Lt.BGob"Eh, the same..." Zavi shrugged, "Saw the family, got most of a year's mothering in a month. Turned my brother into a dog for a weekend. Same old, same old."
You must agree, my plan is sheer elegance in its simplicity! My Tumblr"Huh. Must be nice..." Nate's mother hadn't been quite herself during the holidays. He didn't like to think about it too much. "I like dogs. I mean I like every animal, kinda have to, but I really like dogs, they're very friendly. You're mainly transforming magic, right?"
they/them || "Forgive me, regent of queer amphibians" - Lt.BGobWhile Marcus sat in the auditorium, he tried to kill time by guessing peoples favourite colour, animal and so on... "Yellow, lion, spaghetti...URGH! What the hell is wrong with that guy?" he muttered to himself.
Alexander sat on an empty seat, and continued to talk about things that his Mom told him:
"And she also said to not talk with strangers, but I guess that this place is so safe, I don't really need to worry about that."
Sammy looked around and saw a boy, about her age, with short dark brown hair and deep blue eyes talking about him mum telling him not to talk to strangers. Well... How else will people make friends? she thought. She stood up, picked her school bag and went over to say hello.
"Yeah. Changing things really interests me." Zavi flopped down on the grass. Nate's reply had been off, but he got the feeling that the kid just wanted to talk about something else. "So you work with animals. Does that include birds and fish?"
You must agree, my plan is sheer elegance in its simplicity! My Tumblr"Uh? Oh, hello there!"
Alexander grabbed Sammy's hand and gleefully shook it a few times.
"I'm Alexander, and it's a great pleasure to meet you!"
"I'm Sammy! Pleased to meet you too!" Sammy shook Alexander's hand with equal enthusiasm.
"Yeah, birds and mammals are my specialty." He'd found out that birds love to chat. Usually had a lot to talk about too. "Fish and reptiles kinda just do their own thing- I can talk to them but they're not likely to talk back. I want to focus more on them and magical beasts this year. You're like two years above me aren't you?"
they/them || "Forgive me, regent of queer amphibians" - Lt.BGob"Yep. You'll be taking Mrs Linnaeus's "Magic of the Animal World" subject? It's pretty interesting. I would say watch out for the salamanders, they bite, but I guess you'll be okay."

Blue Pacific, signing off...
"Well, most of what I did was read up on magical history, but I don't think that really counts." She thrust the envelope into her pocket. "Especially if you account for my brother. He's getting into trouble so often that I barely blinked an eye when I finally got around to reading what he sent me today."
