Lately I've become obsessed with the game Nomic. If you haven't heard of it, it is a game where creating and amending rules is part of gameplay. We start off with the Basic Rules, and define mechanics from there until someone has managed to win.

I'm borrowing an idea from Blog Nomic, in that each game will have a theme. This helps create a cohesive game and inspire mechanics.

The Basic Rules:

• New players may join at any time. I (the Game Master) will be responsible for "dealing them in" so to speak.
• The "Board" consists of all variables relating to the game (playing pieces, stats, phases, etc.) and an up-to-date edition of the rules. The Board will be located in my Troper page for convenient access.
• Rule proposition posts begin with a header containing "Rule: " followed by the title of the rule. The text below then explains the details.
  • A rule proposition may also simply be a call for the repealment of a previous rule, which is handled exactly the same. Another possibility is an Amendment to a previous rule.
• Once a player has proposed a rule, they must wait until another rule has been proposed before proposing a new one.
• Rules are then voted on whether to be passed, with majority ruling. This voting session halts normal gameplay.
  • Players have 24 hours of the posting of the proposition to vote. If a player doesn't cast a vote within that time, a ruling is made without it.
• If a player thinks a rule has been misinterpreted or play has otherwise deviated from the rules, xe may Call for Judgement, in which I will decide on the matter and make necessary fiats or decrees.
• Eventually, someone will come up with a way to win. When someone wins, the game is over and the players elect a Game Master for the next game (who starts a new thread and comes up with a new theme).
  • During an Election, each player casts a vote for another player (or themselves), and the player with the most votes once all players have voted is Elected.

This.... looks interesting. Might take a while to fully grasp the concept, though, so please count me as half a player for the time being ^^°

Ok, I guess now we just wait for the Game Master.

By the way, is there any difference between the Basic Rules and the Additional Rules? Part of the point of Nomic is that there isn't any (clearcut) difference, right? ;) (What I am getting at is: may the Basic rules be amended?)

Is this dead? That's a shame; I would've played.

This looks fun. Someone should start it up again.

I`d play...hopefully we can revive it.
