My Dad, brother Dale, and I came back from a trip to D.C, and along the way I talked to Dad about an idea I'd had during the course of our visit. Throughout the drive home we discussed it until we had what I relate to you now:

By 2025 KEPLER found three extra-solar planets which based on what the observatory/spacecraft could discern had all the right conditions for life to emerge. Two years later probes were sent to observe these worlds and transmit what they found. In 2067 the images from one of these worlds (for which I have as of yet no name) were received back on Earth astonishing everyone. There it found not only life, but an alien civilization.

After much deliberation the Global Union decided to send another probe, but this time for the purpose of contact. To this end NOMAD and SPIRIT were created; both equal in capacities to human minds yet geared to radically different circumstances. Space is after all vast, beautiful and empty to the point where most human minds would quickly go mad of loneliness and despair were they to be left adrift in the void. NOMAD was created to endure the void; a tough, determined loner who would do whatever it took to get the job done.

As soon was apparent during the mission's planning stage, such a personality would be counterproductive during the contact stage. There it was clear the ability to get along with beings very different from oneself took priority. That was SPIRIT's task.

And so off they were sent; an odd couple on an interstellar voyage trying hard not to kill one another before the mission is complete.

So, what do you all think of this?

I think it's a cool idea. However, I suppose that you're going to have other characters too along the robots' journey - but who? I don't know, but I think that without other characters or other conflict, it could get boring. Not that I'm saying you won't have them.

Gave them our reactions, our explosions, all that was ours For graphs of passion and charts of stars...

Fixed a typo in the title.

I assume that the last word on the title was supposed to be "scream," but I'm not sure, 'cause it could be some pun I'm not getting. If you want it changed, Holler the OP again.

Yes, I was thinking that this was about Steampunk IN SPACE.

Not to belittle the OP, my first thought went to Portal 2. I do like the idea though. It's a wonderful concept.

Theres sex and death and human grime in monochrome for one thin dime and at least the trains all run on time but they dont go anywhere.

This is a really cool premise.

Thanks for the comments guys. I just want to clarify a few things: I used "steam" instead of "scream" because I originally intended this to be a sort of comedic buddy film where an odd couple starts hating each other but are forced to cooperate. At first they are not happy with this arrangement, and in a sense steam like a teapot steams. The hot water (an intense anger on both sides)is kept from boiling over by the teapot (the fact that they both share the same body and mission). This results in much steaming.

As for how to keep this interesting over the long haul, I would say I'd start by establishing their mission and character dynamics in the first few scenes. Then the audience sees a montage of their travels which concludes when they exit our solar system. The plot skip ahead 20 light years to the point where they approach a solar system which is suspected to be capable of harboring intelligent life. By this point NOMAD is struggling to hold on to what eir sanity, and the only thing keeping eim from losing it is SPIRIT's constant "Come on, you can do this. We don't have much further to go. Have some more electrical stimulant. Whatever you do, don't fail on me now!"

Once they arrive at their destination NOMAD maneuvers them past all sorts of hazards in order to get to the goldilocks zone: the place not too far and not too close to the sun(s) that life may be sustained. They they scan for signs of intelligent life and find...
