Finding Live Action pics (disregard the clock): Characters.Doctor Who

Are we really unable to get better character pics than these cartoons?

I guess I agree that we could do better (although the aliens and monsters page isn't bad)

What if we started small, maybe just do all the different Doctors first?

Sounds like an idea to me, I'd want to wait for a more clear consensus before taking any action though.

Just cause I felt like trying a few out.

Yeah, we have these on the Characters/Sherlock page too. I don't quite get it, but I don't hate them either.

Wow, those are even worse than the Doctor Who ones.

I actually like those. They are simple, cute, and show a bit more than shrunken photos can show. Not to mention the latter might take up more bandwidth.

a bit too simple. they really don't show nearly as much as a real picture would.

Here's my argument against the current images (or at least most of them)

To the left is the current image for nine. As you can see, he looks like some sort of vampire, and it doesn't even look like he's wearing a leather jacket.

Below it is an actual picture, at half the size (about 4 KB instead 8 KB) of the current one, just to dispute the "too much bandwidth" problem.

Two things. Firstly, is it policy to have character pictures at all? I'm ambivalent, but I've only seen them rarely on here. Secondly, I don't like the cartoon pics because they are not uniform. For example, the Sherlock ones only have characters from series 1 which excludes a bunch of main characters. It ruins the consistency. Also, they are unofficial images, so I'm not sure what their place on this wiki is (apart from being linked to as fan art).

I don't watch Doctor Who, but I like them.

considering this has only recently been brought up and the current images have been around for quite some time, I'd say that most poeple are fine with them.

If that was a valid reason, no image would ever be changed.

I like the cartoony pics.

I think they work because visual distinctiveness is large part of what makes characters on this show.

How are these pictures visually distinctive? That might be an argument for some of the doctors, but for the most part, these pictures bear little resemblance to the characters, besides having the same clothes.

True, but it is far from the only thing about the characters that is visually distinct. By using these pictures, we are missing that.

If there is something those don't show, they don't seem to be major things.

Um… how's about, y'know, the facial features? Those aren't important?

Is there any reason not to use images of the characters as shown in the show?

And where are these images from? Do we have permission to use them?

Can I at least change this picture so that people don't think that the Doctor temporarily transformed into Count Dracula?
