I like it, but is there a bigger version? Would be nice if Iago's face were more visible.
Rhymes with "Protracted."The description could use a trim too.
Fight smart, not fair. This is a point against the current image, not in favor of the suggestion: that photograph is classic, but I never interpreted Sophia's look as jealous. Disapproving maybe.
Also the suggested image of Iago (and Othello and Desdemona) is great. The look could be interpreted as brotherly protectiveness or something, I guess, but it would be below the words Green-Eyed Monster and it's jealousy.

Becky: Who are you? The Mysterious Stranger: An angel. Huck: What's your name? The Mysterious Stranger: Satan.Found a bigger version. At max size:
Copied from my post and suggestion in the Obvious Judas thread:
Iago looks comically jealous. Look at the white cloth on his right armpit. It almost looks like he's giving Othello and Desdemona the finger.
To be honest, I think the Iago picture would go great as the picture for Green-Eyed Monster instead [of Obvious Judas], especilly as Othello is the trope namer of that, and Mr. Kenneth Branagh looks so simultaneously pissed and pouty. And the current image for that fits more for A-Cup Angst or Buxom Is Better.
But here is a resized version of the Othello pic, you guys can decide if it belongs here or there:right-aligned version so I can copy it easier into a page ]]

The sad, REAL American dichotomyI like the larger version.

Yeah, the Othello pick is much better.
Reaction Image RepositoryYeah, the larger version definitely works better.
"If it ain't broke, don't fix it. And even if it is broke, just ignore it and maybe it'll be sort of OK — like the environment."I...really like the current image. I think it's perfect.
I think that look says "how crass" not "I wish I had those". It conveys annoyance and disapproval.
Mansfield's dress is a deliberate publicity stunt intended to deflect attention from the dinner party's guest of honor (Loren).

Becky: Who are you? The Mysterious Stranger: An angel. Huck: What's your name? The Mysterious Stranger: Satan.I think Iago also conveys the "monster" part of the trope more effectively. Even if you aren't familiar with Othello, it's obvious that he's up to no good back there.

"If it ain't broke, don't fix it. And even if it is broke, just ignore it and maybe it'll be sort of OK — like the environment."I agree that looking at the picture alone can be a little confusing as to "annoyed" versus "jealous," but in the context of the page, it's completely clear. Do you honestly think people reading a trope page about jealousy could look at the pic and think "oh, he must be annoyed at them"? It's ten times better than the lousy one on there currently. Fully support.

I meant the photo of Sophia Loren and Jayne Mansfield (current image) is a look of annoyance. Iago is jealous.
Becky: Who are you? The Mysterious Stranger: An angel. Huck: What's your name? The Mysterious Stranger: Satan.Ah, I see. Carry on.
That, and it could also be mistaken for her, well, checking out the other woman's breasts.
"The Daily Show has to be right 100% of the time; FOX News only has to be right once." - Jon StewartHa! now that you mention it...
"If it ain't broke, don't fix it. And even if it is broke, just ignore it and maybe it'll be sort of OK — like the environment."Liking the Othello pic a lot better than current one. The jealousy in the Othello pic is a lot clearer since the cause of jealousy is clearly shown.
Could we get a crowner or just go ahead and do it?

The sad, REAL American dichotomyThe consensus is that the Othello pic is much more clear about showing jealousy than the current pic, so I'd say go ahead and make the switch. LMK when it's done and I'll take care of the rest.
Do we use the armpit caption or something else?
edited 14th Mar '12 4:03:35 AM by Willbyr
I don't think this needs a caption at all.
Also, I find the remark about armpits just silly. You don't give somebody the finger by sticking a handkerchief under your arm, that doesn't even begin to make sense.
Rhetorical, eh? ... Eight!Of course that doesn't make sense. Who said it did? I'm just saying it as one of those "when you see it" things.
And as to the question itself, I do find that intentional or no, it adds to the jealousy already found in the image to point it out.
"take care of the rest"? You mean make an images page?

The sad, REAL American dichotomyNo, the page lock and tags (if whoever puts the pic up doesn't do that part too).
We need to move on this. The Othello pic is up, potholed, and tagged, and I moved the quote from Iago to the caption. Locking up.
Picture of Othello, the trope namer.
