I'm wondering now, is it better to go for an example specifically from Disney or to go for a non-Disney example?

[up] Well, at this point, I'd take pretty much any good example.

Here's an idea. No image. There's not a single iamge that can sum up the trope.

[up] Disagree. A close-enough image is better than no image. For example, an image of a movie that has been Disneyfied. Note the thread at the top of the forum arguing against leaving too many tropes imageless.

[up] There certainly is. It's just necessary that we are able to recognize the "non-Disney" version. For instance, the mermaid turning to foam is well and good as an example, but it's not clear she is turning to foam. The fact that the Disney one ends with a happy wedding with a rainbow in the sky is enough of an image.

[up]It's enough for those of us who are aware that The Little Mermaid was originally a book, and that the book does not also end with a happy wedding with a rainbow in the sky. Even if you can't tell exactly what's happening, the juxtaposition does at least get that much across.

I found a good one of Wolverine, but I'm not sure if I'm allowed to use it.

[up]How would that fit this trope?

Laconic: Softening up dark elements of a story to be suitable for children.

It's one of the many cartoons that people made when they thought Disney would ruin Marvel, by Softening up dark elements of Marvel stories.

A subjective hypothetical example doesn't make a good image.

What are the alternatives? Because I think it looks pretty good.

Well, we'd have to see it first.

That still says "I think this trope is bad".

^How? It doesn't really show that the trope is bad.

It does. It says that something "awesome" is made "sissy". That's not unheard of, but the way people talk about this trope, they seem to think that's the only way this trope is done, which is not an attitude this site is out to support, as it's Complaining.

While I think the hypothetical-Wolverine-Disney-movie example is too exaggerated to be a good page image, I wouldn't call it complaining as such. The image does not say "Wolverine is awesome". The image does not say "Disney movies are sissy". It does say "this scenario is silly", to wit: mouse ears on a muscular man chomping a cigar, butterflies and bluebirds being released from a cage, a stereotypically Glurgetastic lyric. But silliness does not imply badness.

If one already believes that Wolverine is awesome and that Disney movies are sissy, then the image does indeed convey to such a person that turning the one into the other would be bad. But I suspect that such a person would feel similarly about any instance of this trope, and that is hardly the fault of the image.

I dunno, the image clearly shows Logan with a disgusted "I'm not being paid enough for this shit" look on his face juxtaposed against an over-the-top Disney setting, with forest fauna flying around him and everything. That isn't exactly a flattering depiction of the situation.

Now I would say it would make a better picture for Badass Decay than the current one. Sure it's still hypothetical, but it does reflect the feelings that reaction trope often has.

[up]Yeah, probably. But I still think it would work for Disneyfication.

[up][up] Badass Decay's pic is a "keep by admin request"; it could go on the Image Links page.

[up]Too bad.

[up][up]Wouldn't, because it's not really what the trope is, but more what some think it is.
