I agree with all this.

So... To repost the current question at hand due to page rollover: What is this trope is and what's it not? We don't want it too broad or too narrow, given that it's a Super-Trope to some quite commonly used tropes like Enemy Within and Superpowered Alter Ego.
For the record, I think we can agree that cases of actual possession by spirits or temporarily disembodied souls/minds should not count.
