Would like to ask anyone who's living in Japan/been to Japan if there's a way to tell a Toyota Crown Comfort from a Toyota Comfort.

I know the former is a slightly longer version of the latter. But I still can't tell. tongue

Bad news of the worst sort from the F2 World Championship.

Statement: Incident during FIA Formula 2 Feature Race, Spa Francorchamps

The Federation Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) regrets to advise that a serious incident involving cars #12, #19 and #20 occurred at 17:07 on 31/08/19 as a part of the FIA Formula 2 Feature Race at Spa-Francorchamps, round 17 of the season.

The scene was immediately attended by emergency and medical crews, and all drivers were taken to the medical centre.

As a result of the incident, the FIA regrets to inform that the driver of car #19, Anthoine Hubert (FRA), succumbed to his injuries, and passed away at 18:35.

The driver of car #12, Juan-Manuel Correa (USA), is in a stable condition and is being treated at the CHU Liège hospital. More information on his condition will be provided when it becomes available.

The driver of car #20 Giuliano Alesi (FRA) was checked and declared fit at the medical centre.

The FIA is providing support to the event organisers and the relevant authorities, and has commenced an investigation into the incident.

unfortunately, there was some other bad car related news not so long ago, Jessi Combs has been killed while attempting to beat her own land speed record.

if you don't know who she is: she's the one that replaced Kari on Mythbusters while she was on maternity leave

now onto some more happy news: Bugatti finally manage to break the 300 MPH barrier for street legal cars:

now, there are some modifications on it:

  • Longer by 25cm
  • Reduced rear cross section
  • Rear wing now fixed and more recessed
  • Added power
  • No passenger seat
  • Roll cage added

so, it's assumed that this is gonna become the Chiron SS so that it can claim the title for the fastest production car

though i do have a feeling that SSC and Koenigsegg will reach 500 KPH first (and i have no idea about Hennessey)

Doug Demuro has finally reviewed the Ariel Atom:

and Koenigsegg broke their 0-400 KM/H and 0-400-0 records again, this time with the Regera:

as for the top speed record, watch to the end of the video[lol]

So I'm worried that the internet is trying to tempt me into buying a WRX wagon to replace my Eurobox. Mostly because my plan was to stick to the Sport for a lower tax bill.

Admittedly I'd prefer a WRX saloon (I'm a WRC fangirl after all) but I think I'd be better with the larger boot space.

Although I am probably going to get a used Ford Flex, my new favorite car of all time is now the Bentley Turbo R. You can get one for less than $20K. Seems like the best used car deal on Earth right now.

Watched a bit of a review on an Aussie who bought a Camaro ZL 1 2013 model in the US and brought it to Australia for conversion to RHD.

This was before legal ones were being brought in as of 2019.

SSC just destroyed the top speed record for street legal cars, at 331.15 mph (532.93 km/h):

it did the run both ways, hitting 301.07 mph (484.53 km/h) on his first run the aforementioned speed the other way for an average speed of 316.11 mph (508.73 km/h)

and, according to this article here, he could've gone even faster if it weren't for the crosswinds

Having completed the run (and Amazon Prime'd a larger pair of undercrackers to house his new, plumper cajones), Brit Oli Webb had this to say: "There was definitely more in there. And with better conditions, I know we could have gone faster, as I approached 331 mph, the Tuatara climbed almost 20mph within the last five seconds. The car wasn't running out of steam yet. The crosswinds are all that prevented us from realising the car's limit."

according to Engineering Explained, the theoretical top speed of the Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut is 332 mph, which matches the simulations done by Koenigsegg

and, according to this article, the Tuatara still has more to give, i think SSC has got this record in the bag

So we're starting to see how safe modern racing cars have become - Haas F1 driver Romain Grosjean walked away from a massive crash and fireball at today's Bahrain Grand Prix with nothing more than second degree burns on his hands and ankles.

When I say massive crash, his car got ripped in half and he had to extricate himself from the remains of the survival cell and the armco barrier it was embedded in. While the whole thing was on fire. Were it not for the Halo on his car and the fact it was on lap 1 meaning the Medical Car was only a few seconds behind the pack allowing someone to be on the scene with a fire extinguisher almost immediately, he'd probably be dead.

the most intense crash someone has survived in motorsport is most likely Kenny Bräck's crash in 2003, he hit 214 Gs for a split second:

Mitsubishi is outta the UK before the end of the year due to financial concerns. They're going to limit themselves to aftersales of car parts and oversee active warranties.

Otherwise, they're still present in the rest of Europe.

[up] Not good news; they could at least have gone to being a commercial-only brand, like how the Chinese did with Morris' revival recently.

Surely they could sell the Delica D5 van and L200 pickup truck, since Mitsubishi clearly sells well with that type of buyer?

I'm not sure if Mitsubishi UK has tried to offer those vehicles in recent years before they declared financial troubles lately.

[up] We have the L200 in the UK, and the ASX SUV sells well on basis of price.

Mitsubishi isn't entirely gone, though, at least in name, the Mercedes-Benz-owned Mitsubishi Fuso Bus and Truck Corporation continues here in the UK, although they left the U.S. in May 2020.

I've seen a fair few Mitsubishi Fuso Canter being used as delivery vehicles lately.

I did wonder if the Fuso Corp is going to be forced to get out of the UK after Mitsubishi UK announced their plans to leave.

They're already started to auctions their vehicles AFAIK.
