That's my first reaction when I've watched this video.

What are some other real life people, historical or contemporary, who did extremely awesome/stupid things that anime characters might have done?

Well, the White Death had marksmanship skills that put most of the wannabe gunslingers in anime to shame. Other than that, not many off the top of my head.

I've got new mythological machinery, and very handsome supernatural scenery. Goodfae: a mafia web serial

Damn. Charles Atlas Superpowers discredited again!

I thought if I just trained enough...

To be fair, though this guy is a hundred times more capable than most of us when it comes to hitting bullets, but he's not an anime character until he's ×1000 more capable.

Average bullets humans can hit with a sword: 0.1/10

Average bullets that guy can hit with a sword... under mildly controlled conditions: 10/10

Average bullets an anime character can deflect with a sword: 1000/1000×Consecutively×coming from every direction at once

Check out the Cracked articles on "badasses".

Can't forget, say, Jack Churchill, who, in one instance, captured 42 Germans and a mortar squad in the middle of the night using only a claymore. Claymore, the sword.

OP: Doing that is certainly impressive, but it's not 'hitting bullets with a katana'.

Oh, I bet he could do it. It's just that no one is insane enough to ask him to actually do it. Yet. evil grin

Hey, I could've walked out of an anime - probably Welcome To The NHK, though.tongue

Obligatory serious answer: It really depends on the anime. For sports, though... I'm going to go with the Isner-Mahut tennis match, which would probably have taken up to two cours worth of episodes. Now that's filler.

That reminds me of a joke which I'm sure I stole, but I'm going to adapt for this thread anyway.

Soccer players all come from harem anime because they have to go on for hours without scoring, yet supported by their fans who will insist you don't understand. tongue

On a slightly related note I would have thought the parkour/freerunners would look right at home in an anime, yet I'm pretty sure there haven't been any anime featuring them by name or even someone who does anything like them.

Well, Durarara features some parkour, at courtesy of Shizaya. Also, there is Air Gear but...well...let's say that I have nothing postive to say about this preposterous series.

A lot of action anime characters don't need parkour anywaym they're usually strong/fast/skilled enough to jump over high fences, run up walls, etc. Not to mention those that can actually fly.

Haven't the Mythbusters done something like this? I don't remember if it was confirmed or not (or if they even did it). Still awesome, though.

[up]It was the "ninjas can catch arrows" myth. Although their ninja can't ALWAYS catch the arrows, he did it enough times that it was plausible.

I'm reading this because it's interesting. I think. Whiskey, Tango, Foxtrot, over.

You know, I think that given a solid enough sword, I think he might be able to cut a bullet too. At least it's much bigger than BB rounds. Then again, there's the speed...

[up]Of course, it would be utterly stupid of them to actually attempt it, for obvious reasons.

[up][up][up]Oh, okay. I remember that. Also, that means they haven't tested bullet-cutting. Someone get them on this, quick!

[up]I think they did, actually. Well, at least they tested bullet-BLOCKING with a sword.

Not impossible, but very, very unlikely.

[up][up]Looks like these are what the Mythbusters have tested:

  • Is it possible for a human to catch a bullet in his teeth?
  • Can a ninja deflect a bullet with his palm?
  • Davey Crockett's Magic Bullets: Can two targets be hit with one shot by splitting a bullet on an axe blade?

I'm reading this because it's interesting. I think. Whiskey, Tango, Foxtrot, over.

I sometimes think Samuel L Jackson looks like he came out of an anime on occasion.
