Why cut it? Is it causing problems?
It is a real literary term, apparently. Granted it may be somewhat obscure in the Anglophonic world, but unless someone can demonstrate that it is being used incorrectly, I see no reason to ditch it.
"I never heard of it" or "there aren't a lot of examples" isn't a good argument. Is it causing misuse?
There is no hint of correct use. Even says right there how the term is ill-defined.
something"There aren't a lot of examples" is perfectly valid if the only examples listed are Zero Context Example that drop it below the minimum of 3.
Fight smart, not fair.This. It is are recognized pre-existent term (even if mostly in another language). We shouldn't have to resort on cutting it. It need to be fixed, but cutting it is a bit too much.
Recognized as a pre-existing term, without a proper definition. Tropes should have proper definition, no?
somethingHence why I think fanspeak is the only valid way to keep it. If it's not a trope but it's an established crit term we can keep it as that. But don't list it as a real trope.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickI've read a bit more about it. It's true it's not properly defined by anyone. Here's the best simple way I can describe it.
Some world catastrophe is going on, generally apocalyptic in nature, whether a world war, an alien invasion, or something else magical or whatever, that effects the entire world. In the middle of this, we have focus on a specific community, usually a school, to show daily life. And in this, we have a focus on two main characters and their relationship. The two characters also have a direct connection to the world crisis (usually fighting somehow to save the world), and the relation and crisis run parallel to each other. As tensions rise in one plot, so does in the other, and the climax and resolution of both plots (whether in involves the world/humanity being saved or being destroyed/wiped out) happen at the same time.
That's the most important part. Also, if the world is destroyed/humanity wiped out, generally the couple will survive, invoking an Adam and Eve feel. Also, usually the main character is a boy who starts powerless and not directly involved in the crisis, but meets the girl who is and he decides to join to help her.
I'd be ok with cutting it and rolling it into something else.
How does Xenogears fit that template? There's no normal life component, just the relationship and the cataclysm.
Waiting on a TRS slot? Finishing off one of these cleaning efforts will usually open one up.I don't know. I'm not the one who wrote the page (which I think is poorly written) or added the examples (which have no explanation).
Though I suppose it could count if one considers the relationship and cataclysm, and the two plots being related, the most important part. But the name SekaiKei (World Connection, World Group) comes from that is shows 3 levels of the world, the relationship (You and Me), society (the community around us), and the world as a whole (the cataclysm).
That's definitely a plot type of trope. I think we should send this back to YKTTW to percolate and gather some actual examples rather than more Zero Context Example. Kuro, would you be willing to do that?
Fight smart, not fair.I'd be willing to help, though I've never messed with TKTTW before, so I wouldn't know how the page back through it. Just make a new TKTTW and then copy that over the current page when we're done?
Yah, basically that. Make sure you don't add an Zero Context Example or the normal gushing/bashing that comes with, make sure they give you a series name to attach to it, make sure the work isn't hidden etc to make it look like a good trope ready to launch.
Fight smart, not fair.Alright, I'll start it.
Also, needs some way to avoid/discourage/prevent people from putting up just anything that they think: "reminds me of Evangelion".

somethingAlright, I finished. I re-wrote the description, added info to some of the examples I knew stuff about, took out the Haruhi Suzumiya, Xenogears and Chobits examples since I don't think the former 2 really fit and and latter definitely didn't. I'm still not sure about Madoka though.
Also, it could use a much better Laconic description than the first thing I came up with.

Either cut it or make it a brief fanspeak page with no examples.
