JAFAAC: Ensemble Darkhorse.Live Action TV

Since we have declared war on JAFAAC images, how does this show that Spike is a Ensemble Dark Horse?

Actually, as far as I have understood it, we have dialed back our war on JAFAAC to not pull unless we have something better, and really no ensemble darkhorse subpage pic is going to be much better. I say leave it.

Gonna have to Keep Until Better Image Suggested, since the only way to show this is with a lampshade, and Eddie is just gonna put it back if we pull it.

That seems like a bad image that can be pulled without replacement.

Did someone say 'lampshading'? Last panel on its own would be loads better than the blond smirking JAFAAC we have now.

That would work better as the three people here who don't know Spike would not get the current image, but this explains it clearly.

First of all, I don't get how that's any better. Second, it actually seems worse, since it's a comic and this is a live-action trope.

Is River Tam an actual character from something?

Yes, she's an Ensemble Dark Horse from Firefly, but I maintain it's better because it's a ridiculous fanmade poster about how she should have a movie all to herself. It would be potholed to Firefly of course, but if we are not going with a JAFAAC like what is currently there, this is the only sort of thing that will work.

I don't get the image. Without konwing who River Tam there is no chance to understand what the image wants to say.

And one poorly drawn fan work is not enough to make a character an ED.

Again, the point isn't that you know who it is, it's that a character is popular enough to get that sort of attention.

Also, one fan work does not make her an ED, but a legion of fans and a hit show in which she was an Ensemble Dark Horse does. Again, it's not perfect, but it's much less JAFAAC than the current image.

ED is not just any popular character. Without knowing who she is you can't know that she is not a main character. And I don't see a legion of fans, I see one comic panel drawn by one person.

There isn't even a way to know that she is a character in a TV show. The Image could be a fantasy scene or a action movie parody or anything else.

Right, but you, clearly not having seen the show, do not know that she's an Ensemble Dark Horse, but she is. The comic is a parody of how much fans love her character despite the fact that she has not as much screentime as the main characters.

Also, I can see your point, but how else would you show this? Your choices seem to be a JAFAAC image of a popular Ensemble Dark Horse like the current image or a lampshading fanwork like my suggestion. I think both are imperfect, but barring someone suggesting a webcomic of people talking about the trope, my option solves the OP's problem. Finally, the fact that the pic is on a live action subpage is really all you need to tip people off River Tam is a live action character.

Honestly, I'm not seeing it. A mock movie poster? It could be a joke off of a violent movie, like Rambo. It may not be playing off her popularity, but her penchant for destruction. This tells me no more than the Spike picture did.

So the choices are:

• A picture of Spike that you won't understand without having watched Buffy The Vampire Slayer.

and

• An XKCD comic about River that you won't understand without having watched Firefly.

Yeah, I don't see why that's better. The fact that she doesn't have a face in that picture doesn't stop it from being JAFAAC.

You may as well just put a caption beneath Spike saying "Spike is a Bad Ass" and then the 2 pictures would be on equal footing.

Well, again, I'm not set on it, but I felt like prior to the last three posts, the reasons for it not working were missing the point. I personally don't think you can have an Ensemble Dark Horse picture without JAFAAC and even if we could, it would be on the main page and not on the subpages (it's definitely not likely to be able to have six or seven universally applicable ED pics).

So basically, I'll grant you that the XKCD one doesn't work, but we should probably just leave the Spike pic with a caption.

Agreed. Also, we have no main ED page pic, so if we were to come up with something really good here, it would have to put there anyway (if that makes sense).

I think Just Spike's Face is feebly better than other JAFAACs because it's from the show that launched This Wiki.

While Buffy may have launched the site, at this point it's pretty much just another show as the site's scope has expanded and new users have come over time.

But, yeah, I don't think think the xkcd strip would really work. Comes across as more of a "fighting movie parody" than anything else to me. At least Spike doesn't detract from the point, even if he doesn't add much.

Almost anything's gonna have the same problem, unless you can come up with something that has really, really broad recognition. Something huge, and probably something that's been around a while. A veritable cultural icon.

I can't really think of a TV series that might fit that and has a recognized Ensemble Dark Horse.

What about an image featuring multiple dark horses?

I like Firefly, but I still don't think that pic is any better.
