Its pure spite. The offenders don't like Punkbuster because it prevents them from cheating. So they want to stop people from benefiting from Punkbuster, so more victims are available for cheating.

...They don't like Punkbuster, so they ban people at random?

I don't see the logic in this statement.

[up][up][up]You "glitch" the system to ban random people and the system looks unreliable. People complain, and those who have Punkbuster stop using it. No more cheatblocking.

There's logic if you're not caught. If they're being called hackers, they're caught.

(thinks of the SEA Ls motto here: If you ain't cheating, you ain't trying. If you ain't caught, it's not cheating.)

In theory, even if they are "caught" in the broad sense, unless they actually get arrested they can still win. . . if it damages Punkbuster's usage rates and increases the number of unprotected gamers. More unprotected gamers = more potential victims for hacked gaming.

You know an anti-cheat system has failed when this sort of thing happens.

Also, now I'm recalling the earliest days of Crysis multiplayer, which does use PunkBuster...if you don't run the 64-bit executable, anyway. Even on servers that did have it turned on, it didn't seem to stop rampant, obvious cheating like guys who were blatantly noclipping around at super speed with SMGs that fired rockets. No wonder its multiplayer died quickly.

EDIT: Wait, no, I must have been thinking of Red Orchestra 2. Still, crap.

That might explain why I was all of a sudden getting kicked out of every match I joined within a minute just a few days ago, but the problem has already stopped, fortunately.

Still, to the website condoning these actions... fuck you guys. I seriously hope you get busted on this and have your account screwed up as well.

Not to be a negative nancy, but it's not like Punkbustr didn't already screw over people who weren't cheating. There are plenty of occasions where I or someone else would get kicked or blocked from a server due to Punkbustr having issues. Those issues never seemed to get resolved.

It also never really stopped obvious cheating either. Especially when people are bragging about which hacks they were using during the match.

Punk buster is pretty old, after all. I think I once read that Valve used to use Punkbuster for the original Sierra release of Half Life before switching to VAC.
