[up] Also, this. There shouldn't be a matron.

The problem with Raso's image is that the third girl shows absolutly no quality of wife/mother. This suprised/blushing expression is far to innocent and definetly no sign of being sensible and capable. Two out of three is still not enough to make it a good image.

[up]As has been pointed out, yeah, it's not a perfect image, but it's better than what was originally up there, and it isn't misleading. It illustrates 2/3rds of the trope perfectly well, so I don't see any reason not to use it until somebody finds a good image that illustrates all 3 aspects.

Two out of the three is whole lot better than we've got now.

Three out of the three would be best, but no-one's found one with three out of the three nice and clear.

I prefer no image over a bad one, the trope is about three faces of femininity presented as a trio. Just two of them is not this trope.

Matron, mother, tomato, tomahto.

There is no reason this has to be an anime picture.

"Two out of three" isn't good enough, anyway.

As I've mentioned, she doesn't look bad as a "mom". And I think "looks normal" is probably how you'll see it represented in most cases. I don't think she shows off the mother aspect as well as she might, but I also don't think she's missing it. I can see elements there.

[up] "Mom" has nothing to do with it it's "sensible and stable" which is pretty much a normal person.

I think the image shows all three well....

I guess I will go digging though the show to find better.

[up][up][up] There is no reason, aside from the fact that we haven't found anything better yet.

She is not only missing a the "mother" traits, she is showing traits of a completly different character type. Blushing and being shy is typica child/innocent behavior. Mother is not the "normal" one without any characteristics. "Mother" means she is caring and wise. She is strong the kind of person who supports and protects you.

And once again, Mother is not the third face in this trope. It's the middle aspect of The Hecate Sisters.

Here's something I found.

I think you can tell by the expressions and poses that Catwoman is the serious one, Harley is child-like, and Ivy is a the sexy one.

Another with Batgirl as the serious one.

[up] Yeah, those aren't examples. Catwoman is an amazingly sensual character and she has the same expression on her face as Ivy in that.

But she isn't arching her back and sticking her butt at the camera.

She might not be as sexual, but she's still more sexual than anything else.

But can you tell that from the picture, or are you just saying that based on what you know about the character?

In the show the show the picture came from, she really is the most serious and least sexual one.

I'm saying that from the picture she looks highly sexualized and she's wearing a skintight bondage outfit.

Well, let's give this a try.

On a related note, it is amazingly hard to find actual Avatar screenshots. So much Fan Art. So much.

That's what I'd planned on doing, but I wanted to look at it first to see if it would work at all. Finally got it downloaded...it might fit, but might not, plus we'd need to get permission.

That is Athena, Hera, and Aphrodite btw.

Also, fun fact: the Judgement of Paris story is the one with Eris and her golden apple of Discord; those are the three ("fairest") goddesses that fight over it. Couldn't find a good image of the apple for Artifact of Attraction :(

Crown Description:

IMPORTANT: The image should show the 3 different character types that form the trope.

  • Type 1: Childlike, innocent, naive
  • Type 2: Wise, calm, steady. The "ideal" wife.
  • Type 3: Sexy, seductive, independent
