I honestly kind of hate it when companies had the GREAT idea to make exclusives for portable consoles.

I am not buying one of them under any cirsutances, consoles/pc FOR EVER. I just simply dont like them... plus, not like any of the games they have that interest me cant be played in the console with way better gameplay and grapichs( yeah FAIL spelling I know)...

Well, except with the DS... if only because of Ace Attorney... but thats another whole history.

Portable gaming over Console/PC gaming any day for me. Gaming anywhere and everywhere is a boon for me. I tend to lower the sound when I'm in public places though so that I can hear it and still be aware of my suroundings. Nowadays, I game almost exclusively on portables.

There's also the fact that portables seem to get most of the good JRP Gs as well recently, not to mention that exclusive games and some non-exclusive ones usually take good advantage of what features the portable offers.

Sometimes I find myself in the bathroom longer solely because I'm playing the game.

I'm guilty of this as well.

If you ''really' want to play it without investing in a portable, it's up on Wii Ware.

Comparatively speaking, portable consoles is thriving while home consoles, well, aren't, in Japan. For this reason, I think we're going to see more and more Japanese games on portables than before. Super Mario, Mario Kart, Pokemon, Dragon Quest, and Monster Hunter are currently the top selling games in Japan and all of their most recent mainline releases are currently exclusive to handhelds.

[up] At the moment I have no consoles at all, be it home or portable.

Only PC. I am actually ok with this, so yeah.

The kinds of games I like tend to be rather involved, sit-down-and-play-for-hours types, so I have no use for a portable gaming system. If I don't have time to set up my laptop, I don't have time to play a game.

I am also one of those people who passes up playing games on a console for portables.

The kinds of games I prefer to play, such as platformers and Metroidvanias, have had less of a presence on consoles, so I've pretty much migrated to using portables more often. While I have played console games that I did enjoy, the changing market for console games had made me hesitant on purchasing one.

This has annoyed my friends somewhat.

In fact, when I ended up getting a PS 3, my friends "welcomed" me into the "modern world." Even now, after owning a current-gen console, I still play games on my DS.

[up]Those sounds like terrible friends. Especially since the DS is most definitely part of the "modern world".

I scored an old Gameboy for free, but only have Final Fatasy Adventures for it. Still works, despite being... quite old.

I also scored a slightly beat-up PSP-1000 for free, but it has MGS Peacewalker, which I simply can't get into. I may see about getting some cheap casual games for it, that and getting a compatible wireless router just so I can connect to the 'Net with it; my existing router is a G/N combo, so I'm unable to connect.

I like Portable Gaming solely so I don't have to go through the hook-up process of connecting my console to a TV Screen or finding outlets to attach them to. And because when I am sick in the bathroom I can bring my game in with me to endure the trials of body crisis. Sometimes I find myself in the bathroom longer solely because I'm playing the game.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that's found themselves lingering longer on the can while playing a game. The seat gets so darn comfy after a while. tongue

Much, much, much prefer handhelds. A lot more convenient than consoles, and it helps that a lot of my favorite franchises are either handheld-focused (Pokemon, Ace Attorney), or have a handful of "important" titles made for them (KH, FF, Mario, Kirby, etc).

It also helps that I don't have the problem of being stuck in one place with them. I certainly can't take a dump with my PS 3. =3=

I am all for Japanese game development shifting towards handhelds. Really, give me nothing but a Vita and 3DS, and I'll be all set next gen.

I have little to no time left to play on console or PC, so little that I still haven't unpacked my Wii since moving (with Skyward Sword waiting for me...).

But public transportation gives me all the time in the world for handhelds (when I'm not emptying my backlog of unread books instead).

I rarely have time to play games when I'm at home. Most of the time I have is in the car or out of the house when I don't need to do homework. As a result, I'm mainly a portable gamer. It's also probably because portable games have more frequent save points or can be saved anywhere because people play them for brief times while commuting or whatever, while console games expect that the players are going to be there for a while and don't provide as many stopping points.
