Well...in "Super Smash Bros. Ultimate", there's a spirit battle against Tac, a thief enemy in the Kirby series, right? And in said battle, you have to defeat four dark-skinned Villagers. Seems innocent to me, until I found out that people were criticizing it as a racial stereotype.

Because he's Black and I had the idea to make him into a Gentleman Thief after getting the idea from the Dating Catwoman trope (specifically involving Sly Cooper). He would still be good, just only stealing from bad guys while innocents are left alone, you know?
Maybe I'm overthinking this and worrying about how people will react.

I mean, unless said villagers were very strongly detached from black communities IRL, or if their cultural themes were explored to some extent, I can see where those critics were coming from.
Edit, since I think it‘s worth mentioning here: occasionally, the people who criticize for cultural appropriation aren‘t even the ones whose culture is being appropriated. Mexicans apparently love Speedy Gonzales, and take no issue with the Tostarena kingdom from Mario Odyssey, from what I‘ve heard.
In unrelated news, today I was embarassed that I‘d forgotten the quotient rule for derivatives, so I decided to look it up… in a private window. Which was totally necessary and appropriate for what I was doing, trust me bro.
