So, the one I'm working on currently...
It's based on the combined Chugoku and Shikoku regions, called Midda, and has a theme about different views and ideals coming together into one "heart"... the more relaxed, modern west half (similar to Hoenn) and the more solemn, traditional east half (Johto).
This worked out amazingly well, honestly. There's this one city called Ibara that's right near the middle of Chugoku which has both a medieval japanese theme park and an observatory right next to each other, which makes for an amazingly perfect capital city... which I found out about a while after I'd started working with that theme. It's like destiny.
The two versions have you starting out on either side of the region with a different set of starters- the Hoenn starters in the west and Johto starters in the east.
It actually doesn't have any new Pokemon, which I know is what you guys all want to hear about, so have some megas instead.
- Mega Meganium- grass/rock, Solid Rock or something for an ability, stats concentrated into special attack and the defense stats. Would absolutely love for this to be completely broken. Looks like one of those dinosaurs I can't remember what it's called right now. Might have a signature special rock move.
- Mega Typhlosion- fire/dark, Rattled, stats focused on speed and special attack. Has a new signature move called "Speed Demon" or something- it does damage based on the user's speed stat rather than attack. Looks like a honey badger.
- Mega Feraligatr- water/steel, new ability called "Raw Strength" or something that treats special moves it uses as physical, maybe with a little boost. Stats focused on physical attack and speed. Looks like a Godzilla sort of creature.
- Mega Ledian west- remains bug/flying or becomes bug/fighting. Ability "Furious Fists" gives priority to punching moves. Stats focus massively on attack.
- Mega Ledian east- bug/fairy, ability "Magic Trick" makes physical moves special. Stats focus on special attack and speed.
- Mega Raichu- electric/fairy, with a design that evokes "childhood", like it gained power by getting in touch with its inner child (a jester?). Kind of a joke on how it's overshadowed by Pikachu while still being a competent Mega by itself. Ability is Magic Trick or "Super Heart", which is like Huge Power for special moves.
The box mascots are new forms of Jirachi and Celebi, which are indeed catchable in their respective games.
I always thought of Typhlosion being a Fire/Ground or something like that, since it is a badger.

My last game went alright, it was a Dark Heresy game featuring Ordo Xenos Acolytes tracking down an extremely dangerous alien artifact that gives its user immortality at the cost of his humanity.
To be honest, that was kind of a spur of the moment thing.
