After progressive rock, this is the closest thing I have to a favourite musical genre, though I don't listen to quite as many artists as I'd like. Helios and Hammock rule the roost as far as I'm concerned.

Eno is awesome. Way ahead of his time, and I love his production work as well.

Not a big fan in general, but even I enjoy Chill Out by The KLF, The Magic Place by Julianna Barwick, and the ICO OST.
I didn't write any of that.
Haven't listened to much beyond Burzum.
I have heard some Eno and thought he was pretty great (An Ending especially).

This year has been a good year for ambient, especially at the more neo-classical end of the spectrum. I thoroughly advise checking out the following releases from 2011:
- A Winged Victory For The Sullen - A Winged Victory For The Sullen
- Deaf Center - Owl Splinters
- Johann Johannsson - The Miner's Hymns
- Blanck Mass - Blanck Mass
- Grouper A I A: Alien Observer/Dream Loss
- Petrels - Haeligewielle (kinda more noise/drone than ambient but it's on the same scale)
- Quiet Evenings - Transcending Spheres
- Tim Hecker - Ravedeath, 1972
Likewise, I know of Eluvium but never really listened to any of his stuff in any great detail, need to listen again.
Hammock are amazing. Which do you think is their best album? I'd probably go for Maybe They Will Sing For Us Tomorrow.

Totally love Steve Roach, Mystic Chords & Sacred Spaces is a MUST-HAVE as far as I'm concerned. The box set is beautiful too.
Also love William Basinski, Stars of the Lid, Bo C, Tim Hecker, etc. Also, Steven Wilson (lead singer of Porcupine Tree) has another moniker, Bass Communion, which is pretty much flat out drone/ambient, and it's done very well. The Drugged series in particular.

Same, I think MTWSFUT is a pretty clear peak of achievement for Hammock.

I've recently gotten into Eluvium too. I was slightly shocked when I was recently going back over my Spotify playlist and believed that Eluvium's discography had been removed. It was simply re-added though and I was last listening to Talk Amongst The Trees.
Random question, would bare white noise be considered ammbient on some level? I.E. not as part of a remix but still likely mixed into some sort of loop, possibly for comfort listening reasons?

They're more post-rock, but I think it's very ambient. It's engaging if you pay attention to it, but you can also have it as background noise.
