Never heard of it. Don't see how it's a genre (or why it should be a genre for fanfiction and not other media).

There seems to be no YKTTW archived. How about sending it there to gather examples, assuming there are any fanfics of this type?

Apocalypse How covers this just fine. Nothing about the description applies to fan fic over published fiction.

Though TBH this is the kind of thing I'd generally just cut. It doesn't even meet the criteria for a valid trope page (3 examples minimum), there are zero inbounds, it was never YKTTWed and the wicks are low.

As the title says, Apocalypse Fic has no examples. And, usually at least, a trope page without examples is an sad sad page.
Sadly, I am not that familiar with fan fiction, so I have no knowledge of any examples.
EDIT: The related pages shows some examples, but still not many. This is probably going to need some Entry Pimping if we're going to keep it.
