And there's plenty of games on steam that aren't too intensive. How crappy we talking about?
Did you call if you wanted to be heads or tails? Oh right, you called "do it".

The sad, REAL American dichotomyWell it's a cheap laptop that's five years old... So what kind of low-power games are there?
I vowed, and so did you: Beyond this wall- we would make it through.Start with the Humble Indie Bundles, maybe even Team Fortress 2 if you're underestimating your computer, and see how it goes.
That's my advice to everyone, because those games and bundles I recommended are either cheap (the bundles, when available you set your own price, or you could try to buy an extra copy off someone) or free (TF 2) so you have nothing to lose.
The sad, REAL American dichotomyThere are lots of really cheap old games on Steam, that go for an absolute pittance on sale.
DumboWell the randomness choosed you,◊ Wanderlustwarrior to win Really Big Sky! GlitchMaster do you want Stell Storm: Burning Retribution?
Well my current pc is a desktop between six and seven years old and I can still play a lot of games on Steam. Of course I play them on low graphics but they work. I also recomend TF 2, it is a Source game and games made using the Source Engine are more processor heavy than graphic card heavy.
Can You Run It tells me I can run TF 2. :)
I vowed, and so did you: Beyond this wall- we would make it through.Sweet! Thanks!
Glitch, the other game looked cool too, you should get that!
Keep in mind that since it's steam, if you get a new computer, you can keep your games as they will transfer.
I've got a 1.5 year old laptop. It can play tf2 and psychonauts fine, minor issues on Mirrors Edge and Arkham Asylum (demo), and some noticeable, persistent lag on Sonic Generations.
Oh right, Portal. I can run both Portals fine. You could possibly run the former.

The sad, REAL American dichotomyI sometimes do not trust Can You Run It? because, for example, it says I can't run Portal2 which I can and generally when it comes to the video card specially if in the break down of features my card pass the requirements.
So does Can You Run It? usually err on one side?
So it correctly tells me that I can't run Hydrophobia Prophecy or Sanctum. It doesn't have Moonbase Alpha so I can't test that. It also says that I can't run Mirrors Edge (I expected this) or Magicka (I didn't expect this), but also says that Dungeon Defenders is well within my computer's capabilities (I also didn't expect this). And it says that my computer can run Team Fortress 2 but not well.
Not much error as is that it uses the specs given by the games and some games can be run with video cards not in the spec. for example my card is a G-Force 6200 which is quite similar with the 7000 series except that the 7000 series have some more things, the thing is that most games said G-Force 7000 series and my card pass the requirements of ram and other things detailed so generally in that cases is because I do not have a 7000 or newer card and not based on it characteristics.
In any case the best way is to try to play the demo of the game if posible.

See, I always thought of Dungeon Defenders and Magicka as two similar games (fantasy multiplayer co-op games with some dose of unseriousness and tons of DLC) and I never thought to check the stats.
Also, I can't run Farming Simulator 2011. So much for getting two coupons for it in the winter sale...

Oh, and I won't be playing any Mass Effect anytime soon.
Well, there's the Origin problem, even if I could.
Well after checking the requirements of the games I would say that you probably do not have 2 or more GB of RAM or that you do not have a Ge Force 7600 GS/ATI Radeon HD 2400 or higher video card. If you check the Dungeon Defenders requirements you can see that it does not specify any card in particular, just what it needs to have to run.
So for Sanctum and Magicka try the demos, maybe you can run them.
Mass Effect has much higher requirements than Will It Run shows. I speak from personal experience.
Since it varies from a case to case basis I suggest trying all games before you buy them.

Apocalypse: Dirge Of Swans.Sanctum I actually have. I just feel bad because it's a gift from J Bridge.
I have quite enough RAM. In fact, I get pass on all but one thing, usually. The problem, consistently, is my graphics card being too suck to run these things. And it's not the particular sub-aspects of the card, either, unfortunately. Those all pass, but it just says that my graphics card is too suck.
I know how you feel. I was pissed when I bought and downloaded Just Cause 2 and got a Direct X 10 required error. (Goddamnit Microsoft)
Apocalypse: Dirge Of Swans.I have the same problem and generally, unless it is a difference in somthing such as, I don't know, Opne GL 3.0 and you have a card with 2.0 or things like that, it generally ends up working.
FYI I checked Hydrophobia, Sanctum, and Moonbase Alpha because I actually know those don't work.
It seems that my limiting factor is my graphics card. Unfortunately, there isn't a good way of measuring how good one's graphics card is, apart from consulting one of those big lists.
I already have Steel Storm, thanks though~
Also, Terraria is great for people with weak graphic cards.
"DURANDAL AND GLADOS WILL MAKE BEAUTIFUL CYBER SEX AND HAVE SNARKY PILLOW TALK" - The FreemanOh darn... I probably should've just removed my claim to Sky then and asked for the other so you could get something...
The sad, REAL American dichotomyYou better not try to give me that game, or else I'll just throw it back at you!
"DURANDAL AND GLADOS WILL MAKE BEAUTIFUL CYBER SEX AND HAVE SNARKY PILLOW TALK" - The FreemanI've already installed it.
Huh. Portal series on sale for Midweek Madness. I think I'll buy the Final Hours for 68 cents.
Oh right, one of the best things about Steam is all the sales.

The sad, REAL American dichotomyWell that is bad luck.
Today they released the new DLC for Portal2, so they make a sale. I really like Valve Steam marketing
Terraria is awesome thoguh it is high RAM consuming.
Another awesome game that for some reason not always run smothly in all machiners (being made in flash) is The Binding Of Isaac which is $5 in Steam and will recieve the 28 of this month a huge DLC only for $3!
Well if you want to play any games that require Steam then you need Steam...
Give me cute or give me...something?
