I think it'd be funny if Finn did more than barely survive, not because he's good but because he's an untrained rookie taking unnecessary risks that even Kylo says "What the fuck?" to.
I don't see the point of Finn not being force sensitive. He needs something to awaken him from Stormtrooper indoctrination.
..His consciousness?
"All you Fascists bound to lose."Or even his conscience?
My various fanfics.Nah that's too farfetched. Consciousness is much better.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."My assumption was that stormtroopers were mildly brainwashed, which explained their susceptibility to the Jedi mind trick.
Being blindly loyal to the Empire does not a strong mind make.
It's probably more of a commentary that in settings like these, MOST humans are weak minded simps who are only there to fuel whatever nation happens to own them at the time. It's the main reason Democracy gets blasted away in these things.
Right, but how do they get to blind loyalty? Even volunteer soldiers tend not to be that fanatical, and conscripts less so (though old EU said the Empire wasn't conscripting until after Palpatine's fall increased the need for men and decreased the available pool of them). Plus it makes sense in a scifi setting that boot camp would include some straight up mind control if you were dealing with a less ethical regime.
Those may have been the clone stormtroopers. Even enlisted guys go through training and extreme indoctrination, though.
The Lost Stars novel mentions how Imperial cadets in the various academies go through and take extensive classes on Imperial culture and "history"—aka extensive propaganda disguised as history— such as Mace Windu being the one who actually started the Clone Wars.

Aftermath also reveals they have "loyalty officers" who weed out and deal with anyone who seems like they could cause dissent in the ranks. There's an anecdote of one breaking a boy's finger because he caught him trying to learn an alien language instead of just speaking basic like most other Imperials.
Wait, they blame Windu? One would think they'd keep the blame on the alliance of mostly alien worlds that seceded from the Republic and made the first strikes.
The separatists certainly get a lot of blame, but the Empire would have a strong incentive to blame the Jedi for as much as possible so the purge would appear to be based on more than just a single incident.
I do recall the observation that the Empire says Dooku never left the Jedi "for real", and thus the entire war was basically a Jedi plot to take over the galaxy and rule supreme.
Basically Palps tells people The Jedi were planning to do what he actually did. What a cheeky fellow.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."Makes sense. The best way to pull off a conspiracy is to make the lie as close to what happened as possible, makes fewer holes in the argument.
Does the new EU have the Empire's propaganda for the clones, and why they switched over? I'm guessing it's some version of being tainted by the Jedi, but I honestly don't know.
According to the backstory for "Rebels" the clones were decommissioned and either discharged or put on Imperial projects after the war. A lot of them are experiencing PTSD from killing the Jedi, too. In-universe they had a chip implanted that made them unable to resist executing Order 66, unless they were somehow removed.

Why even let them live anyway? The mind control wears off eventually and when it does you'll have a bunch of pissed off soldiers wondering why they suddenly went berserk.

Presumably the brain chip (or rather, the upgraded chip) does more than just Order 66; when the chip is active, the clones have the mantra "Good soldiers follow orders." As in, plural.
Aside from a handful still in the 501st, they were all either made into slave labor; knew and trusted Rex/Fives, and thus had the chip covertly removed; are a deserter like Cut Lawhatshisname, and thus not in a position for it to matter; or are Gregor, who got blown up twice, is batshit insane, and also had the chip removed at some point.

I agree with it being bunk really, but I didn't see where else to post this since it was about a spin-off.
Speaking of that, if it's true that Finn isn't Force-sensitive, I want his duel with Kylo Ren to basically be him barely surviving by the skin of his teeth until Ren finally disarms him. He raises his saber up to finish the job...then Finn's lightsaber flies off the ground and into Rey's hand as she leaps off of a rock and into a downward swipe towards Rey's head that he narrowly blocks, then we get an actual lightsaber duel.
