Enough about Vader already. Let the dead man rest in peace. I really hope the Togruta make an appearance in the actual movies. They're the canon race I like the best. They're like twi'leks with resonance chambers on their heads and a third lekku in the back. I doubt Shaak Ti will return, but others would be nice.

A live action Ahsoka? Sure. When I said actual movies, I meant the live action ones. I know there are some animated ones, but they're mostly TV show episodes strung together.

I hate Twi'leks and don't get why they're so popular... I sure don't.

Togruta are better. They're not completely Fanservice. Sure, you've got your Ahsoka Tanos, but you also have your Shaak Tis.

Shaak Ti has always been my favorite prequel Jedi out of sheer personal pity of the creators seemingly trying to kill her three times already - it's like the poor woman can't catch a break from the Sith let alone her writers.

With The Force Unleashed being decanonized, it seems as if she has yet another chance to rise from the grave to kick ass or be Back for the Dead yet again. tongue

Allowing her to appear in Rebels would be a great touch, since it gives Ahsoka a new mentor that also happens to share a common homeworld. The duo would also make excellent Back-to-Back Badasses.

I think she died in the clone wars. Yoda (I think it's Yoda) has a vision of the future and sees Anakin running her through with a lightsaber (her original death in ROTS), so she's probably done for.

[up] True, but Yoda also sees Mace, Obi-Wan, Luminara, and other Jedi charging together against a line of clonetroopers - which doesn't happen in ROTS.

I'm actually perfectly fine with Shaak Ti dying, it's just that I believe she deserves a more worthy way to perish than kneeling down and allowing someone to backstab her with her own lightsaber. The Force Unleashed at least portrayed her as being so powerful that she was capable of taming the largest Sarlacc in the galaxy as a hound dog.

People are talking about the best Star Wars EU stuff and nobody mentions the Matt Stover books? And people still give a shit about Kot OR? I feel so confused right now.

Also, on the subject of Vader having to deal with his past- I always felt like his reaction to visions of Padme or shit like that would end up with him just being all "I'm done with this shit" and just cutting through it or something. Would he be unhappy with himself and everything? Yeah, probably. Would he hesitate? No. I don't think anything short of his son would get to him that deeply. Finding Luke meant there was still a part of his old life he could get back. Everything else either is or might as well be dead and buried to him. When he gave up his name, he gave up everything else about his life. He's convinced that Darth Vader is all he has.

@Journeyman: You do realize that most female twileks depicted in Star Wars happen to be sex slaves, right? They're either dancers for the Hutts or what have you. It's not like fanservice is their hat. I don't know why people seem to think that.

I don't give a shit about the first KOTOR that much. The second one is the actual best though.

While the EU was around in the X Wing books the Twi'leaks were also a proud warrior race, not just dancers or merchants.

Speaking of Twi'leks, I just noticed that the old EU had a series of comics detailing the exploits of Red Squadron in the events immediately leading up to the Battle of Yavin - one of the central characters was a green Twi'lek fighter ace with a characteristically modified white helmet.

Hera of Star Wars Rebels is essentially Cesi Eirriss with a different name and a fresh backstory. Perhaps Disney did give the old canon some respect after all. tongue

^ The whole "Legends" thing wasn't "we're dumping all that earlier stuff, and you'll never see it again", it was "we're being selective about what we bring into the official continuity". Nothing outside of fan whining even suggested that they'd utterly refuse to consider old EU stuff, just that it's not being brought into canon whole-cloth.

I thought it was clear right from the start that their intention was to start out by exiling the entirety of the old EU so they could pick and choose what to keep. I'm sure some of the more popular elements like the Thrawn trilogy and Knights of the Old Republic will be reincorporated in some form.

Nothing outside of fan whining

Really?

If any fan is so invested in Star Wars that they go out and procure the comics, novels, games etc, when they complain about the things they like being thrown out, can you really call that "whining"? Those are justified complaints, and Disney or whoever should've addressed those immediately after announcing "Episode" 7. Something like:

"Hey, we're annexing the EU, but we'll take elements from it and put back into continuity what we can, k? Now give us your money!"

Really, those fans are the ones [the aforementioned ones that go out and procure all this stuff] you should listen to, and not self-righteous tryhards like Plinkett or whatever.

The old EU still exists though. It's just an alternate continuity now. If they refused to continue selling the books or graphic novels that's one thing but they explicitly created the Legends banner to differentiate them which makes it clear the old EU will remain in print.

[up]True.

Major comic book universes have had alternate continuities for decades now and generally do at least a partial reboot every couple of decades or so. Now Star Wars has an alternate continuity called "Star Wars Legends", and like all alternate continuities good concepts will occasionally find their way into the main continuity.

[up]Have you seen the backlash for the New 52? People generally don't like reboots.

[up][up]Dahs cool, but "hey, these stories you like? We'll never add to them and we're just pushing them over to that corner while we make these new stories!" isn't really good enough for some people, and rightly so.

I understand it's frustrating but I can't really blame Disney for wanting to do their own thing with the franchise. They had no involvement in the old EU so why should they be tied down by it?

On another note have they actually said the Legends continuity is being abandoned entirely? While the new EU will be their main focus I don't think it's impossible that they might eventually release stories in the Legends continuity.

[up][up] Unlike the new 52, nobody (aside from maybe a couple of folks) is really up in arms about the new Star Wars canon.

No new stories under the label has been announced AFAIK. No new Zahn books despite him going to Disney with his ideas for a book or two in the new EU or more Legends books.

All the new books are in the new EU and most of them are pretty much pushed as tie-ins to VII. "Find out what happened before the next hit film of the year!", "Discover the transformation of the Empire following Endor!", "See Luke go on a journey to find himself after VI!" etc pretty much.

[up][up][up]From what I understand there were some extenuating circumstances regarding how the Nu52 that went beyond it being a reboot. Obviously they can work out in the long term because otherwise DC wouldn't of even considered doing the Nu52 in the first place if Crisis on Infinite Earths was universally despised to that day.

At the end of the day, shifting the EU into the Legends continuity was something that had to be done for the new trilogy to work. Otherwise one of 3 things would happen:

1. The end result of the story would already be known from day 1 and they would have little to no creative freedom in regards to the movie's content. 2. The story would have to be set so far in the future that it bares no real connection to the events of the original trilogy.

3. The story would be so small scale that it doesn't have an obvious impact on the broader Star Wars universe.

As for the Legends continuity not being added to, plenty of book series are unlikely to ever have an official continuation, but that doesn't mean they don't have tons of passionate fans to this day.

[up][up] All new Star Wars material is being pushed as part of one single, overarching canon, meaning that it's on par with the movies, so I wouldn't call it merely a tie-in.
