I remember an article thingy about how the Stormtroopers let Luke and the others go in A New Hope.
Here.
The best Vader scene I have ever... seen, is when he comes into his own as a Dark Lord of the Sith and brutally kills Roan Shryne while using Dun Moch to break his will.

"If you weren't so crazy I'd think you were insane."That specific instance of Vader being Vader isn't canon anymore, so yeah.
Also, I disagree. Even if Luke played the trope straight, he'd be a more compassionate and effective Chosen One than Anakin.
@unnoun: Vader finding out that Luke is his son in the Darth Vader comic gives me chills too. Holy shit, that entire sequence is so good.

Except Luke as the chosen one ruins the idea that he's just a kid from a simple farm that defies all odds and saves the galaxy through his compassion. If he did all that whilst being the chosen one, then his accomplishments fall on destiny rather than himself... when the point of him not going along with what Obi-Wan and Yoda wanted was him doing what he thought was right.
Anakin, conversely, despite being far more special that Luke, turned out to be a failure because he lacked the humility Luke had. Not the compassion, but the humility. Anakin thought he could use the force as a tool to keep those he couldn't let go alive—that's pretty extreme arrogance on his part, due in no small part to him being told since he was 9 that he was hot shit and Force Jesus.
And, again, I don't care what Disney says is canon when they're putting out inferior content. Do note how I always make note of "in the old EU, X," because while I don't give a shit about the weaker stories told in the new canon, I still think it necessary to make a distinction so as to not confuse people.

"If you weren't so crazy I'd think you were insane."I think the Vader comics are a much better story than anything you've quoted.
Most of the new Star Wars content is already miles better than the vast majority of the dreg that was the old Star Wars EU. Seriously, the Darth Vader comic is great, and so is the Star Wars Princess Leia miniseries, the Star Wars comic is pretty decent, most of the novels are decent IMO as well, especially Tarkin. And Star Wars Rebels is getting rave reviews from both fans and reviewers, so.
Seriously, all the new canon needs to do is re-establish certain concepts and characters from The Thrawn trilogy and I'd give it an A++

x3, I'll take your opinion more seriously after you've actually read the novel.
"If you weren't so crazy I'd think you were insane."Just saying that the parts you thought were supposed to be convincing weren't.
@unnoun: Cruherrx likes to overhype Dark Lord: Rise of Darth Vader. it's an okay novel, but he really loves it.

Also, I could cherry pick the best EU stories and they far outnumber and outscore the current canon. It's okay if you like the new canon more or whatever, but don't pretend the old EU was shit.
Don't be so hyper defensive. My opinions shouldn't rustle your jimmies this much. I know I'm really cool, and you all look up to me, but I'm still just one man.
"If you weren't so crazy I'd think you were insane."The New Jedi Order, Legacy of the Force, Republic Commando, any number of novels beyond those that I didn't mention: all bad. The Thrawn trilogy is great, 10/10, would read forever, and I love the KOTOR games. Other than those two things, the EU is vastly forgettable.
And I don't really care about your opinions, I'm just irritated by the way you constantly talking over other people in this thread and focus on Vader all the damn time. You're not the authority on Vader.

>authority on Vader
No, I like continuity. And when writers can't write Vader and Sidious with the same elegance they're written in the movies, or even in the canon novels, then I'll call bullshit.
Edit for your edit: And more Vader is more better. Let's talk about Vader. I think he's a pretty cool guy.

"If you weren't so crazy I'd think you were insane."
Nah, I'm sick of Vader. He can fuck right off for the time being.
edited 3rd Jul '15 1:37:43 PM by higherbrainpattern
I don't think he's physically capable of that anymore. Between that clunky suit he can't take off and the burning on Mustafar, it would probably be an awkward situation for Vader and his partner.

"If you weren't so crazy I'd think you were insane.""Nah, I'm sick of Vader. He can fuck right off for the time being."
This times 10.
So according to Nolan North, the Visceral Studios Star Wars game is going to be similar to Uncharted or Star Wars 1313 in terms of gameplay. I'm really curious about it now.
They should just make Star Wars Mass Effect (2 or 3, I should specify) or Star Wars Skyrim.

"If you weren't so crazy I'd think you were insane."They already did a Star Wars Mass Effect. It's called Knights of the Old Republic.
But they could always remake/reboot KOTOR for the current-gen platforms, yeah.
I hated KOTOR's interface. Mass Effect 2 and 3 are totally different, and that's what I'd want a Star Wars game to be like.
"If you weren't so crazy I'd think you were insane."Are you all fighting over something 100% subjective like what books are good or bad? Don't trash talk people for liking different books from you.
The best Star Wars movie is the one where Darth Vader only has 12 minutes of screen time.
I didn't write any of that.
Shiny new X-wings!
and shiny new pilots!
And shiny new Stormtroopers!
Will they carry on the tradition? Or will they receive better training from here on out?
And a shiny new page!
