I see. Him stopping beforehand probably works better for me actually.

I was thinking Lakan would steal something personal from a high-ranking thieves guild member? not sure, maybe someone's wife's wedding ring or some artifact of power?

It's not that I can't think of anything, but I'm not always fond of just creating canon by myself, especially if it's like the thieves guild where a lot of other people's characters are involved.

Why does your character want to steal from one of the city's most powerful criminals anyway? It seems like that kind of thing would be a good way to wind up face down in one of the 'rivers'.

There are no player characters that have more than cursory ties to the thieves association, so what does it accomplish to piss off some NPCs in the first place?

...aside from giving daltar—or anyone, for that matter—an excuse to just on a whim have some NPCs break into Lakan's house and swipe all his stuff, or just outright attack him. Shapeshifting isn't really the best defense against a bunch of liars, conmen, and thieves.

For various reasons, I'd really rather avoid violence where possible in the RP. That's why I was so heavy-handed in shutting down the situation with Amairei. Aside from it just being dumb.

I was actually going to use the theft/return to just make deeper connections between the Court of Dreams and the Thieves Guild as a set up for possible later antics, since the reason he's bringing it up is to get a message of "sorry I messed up, are we cool if I return it?" through to the bigger powers of the city rather than "haha, I stole your MacGuffin and you can suck it" which is what he already did.

More of a creating bonds and settling old problems rather than an excuse to start violent wars throughout the RP.

So...he already stole it and wants to return it? And he wants to do this by... meeting with the people who are very pissed off at him? All of whom are NPCs...

[up]x5 Well if there's not going to be conflict, don't expect this to last very long.

Wouldn't it be better though if there were conflict that mattered?

Was that directed at the "one player character pissing off an organisation made entirely of NPCs" bit or the "trying to avoid violence" bit?

Because there can actually be conflict without violence, and if there's going to b- no, when we reach the parts with violence, I would also prefer if it's not the "oh look, the city guard doing their job and investigating something, Imma cut them up" kind of violence from characters that ostensibly aren't villains. Also, if we're relying on a conflict that only involves more than one player character by the loosest definition of the word, I'd say we should try to come up with a different conflict.

Well, there's an NPC group that is tied to a character... if you're dead set on something like that.

Or try to kidnap the Doge. Steal something from an actual PC. Something like that.

But I kidnap the Doge all the time!

But in all seriousness I apologize and will try to be a bit more clever about things from here on.

@ Tachikaze: The reason Killian suspected them is tied to his backstory.

And we do need a bit more of a conflict.

Alright, some notes.

Dblade, if there's someone in the Court that encourages thieves to work the crowds on the theater it would not be widely known and it might be an arrangement only one or two members made on their own.

Getting your audience robbed in your own theater is quite bad for business and not something the prideful Court would conduct themselves in. It may even be a point of conflict in the future... if the responsible members of the Court get caught that will spell a bad while for them. Now as for stealing outside the theater that is another thing altogether. After all, a thief is a role just like all others.

On the other hand... as for the actual argument, there shall be fights in the RP. If your character doesn't want to involve themselves in the physical fights, well there is always the option for them to turn away from the conflict, escape or talk their way out of it.

If I'm sure of something it's that I'm not sure of anything.

Outside the theatre was the general idea I had in mind, sorry I wasn't clear. I figured inside the theatre was too obviously "not really a good idea" to be what I meant. If you'd like I'll edit that out nonetheless.

I seem to be on quite the "not thinking things through" streak.

I wasn't saying that I don't expect or want fights, although Alex is probably going to sit most/all of them out since she's not exactly made for combat, I'm just saying that it seemed slightly...odd to me that a fight was going to break out in that particular situation. Sorry if it came off that way.

Thormund's in for all the interesting fights. He'll only sit out fights that are boring/unworthy of his attention.

A mix between fight, run and talk works fine for Lakan.

I usually go in for a mix of roleplay and combat. As for Chandri, unless he or someone he cares about gets attacked he'd probably either avoid conflict or stay on the fringe and look for an opportunity to profit from it.
